Daniel's RSM 250 SPS tank

Cool Video, Daniel, the reef is packed with life! Question- are the colonies in the Refugia under the red light alive? How do they do under that light?

Hi Matt

YES !!! Those 3 colonies in the Refugium rack have been always under the Red/blue light. I wrote yes in capital letters because they are doing GREAT!!!

Those 3 plugs had microscopic pieces of corals, like 1/2 inch.

I am afraid of moving them because they grew very fast (~ 1 year old ) compared with my other Acros.

That light is to grow plants inside the house. As I was sure they were going to die, I through them there and never pay more attention. Until I saw they started to grow.

I am in Geneva, Switzerland now, but this weekend I will post pictures for you. One colony is pretty big now compared with what it was (a 1/2 inch frag).

Best

Looking great, Dan. Still growing like crazy. Getting more and more dense.
Everything looks very healthy.
I wonder what those frags under the grow lights would look like under some t5. Wonder if they are brown or full of colour..

They are not Brown, but neither full of colors. Let me see if I can get a good pic this weekend.

Cheers and thank you for stopping to check my thread.

Well, there is also a LED light shining on them. Could you give any more info on the light? Its red, can't say I have seen many red grow lights.

Thanks,

Marty

Hi Marty

Thank you for stopping to read my thread. It is a hydroponic grow lamp. See Amazon link below.

I placed there to provide light to the side of my macro crate box.

Yes, since the start of the fuge there have a been a cheap full spectrum LED light over it.

Bottom line, those Acros colonies get upside down full spectrum light and from the side the "blue/red " light of the hydroponic lamp.

TaoTronics LED Grow Light emits 3 bands in 660nm, 630nm, and 460nm peak growth spectrums for plant photosynthesis. 10 red 660nm and 630nm LEDs are used to prolong flowering to produce the better colored, sweeter and juicier fruit. 2 blue LEDs illuminate to strengthen stems and grow more leafs, altogether increasing the yield by 20% - 50% which should contain 10-20% more total soluble sugar and Vitamin C as well as 20-30% more crude protein.

And with that light, you have seen faster growth on the corals it shines on?
Another question, you stated the colors weren't good on those two corals. Do you feel they will color up once in the main tank?

Thanks,

Marty

Hi Marty

Yes... those 2 colonies grew very fast. They were almost nothing, very small pieces. Your question make me though about it. And they grew fast. But now that I can link pictures again, I want to find pictures and check how old they are comparing them to other Acros.

About the color change I do not have any idea and as I do not have real state in the DT to move them....well, I will not be able to test it.

My tank is getting more and more crowded every day but still not as good as this one Dan. :)

ONE OF THE BEST TANKS WITH AN AMAZING RECOVERY I HAVE EVER SEEN IS YOUR TANK !!!! .....all in capital letters because you deserve it.

I think I was wrong about the colors. When you shut off the plant growing light that has mainly blue and red LED, those are the colors under the full spectrum reef light.

That is fascinating! I would not have expected them to grow faster or to have such nice color.

They look absolutely fantastic! Super healthy and great colours.
Very interesting, indeed!
Not to mention, your display, Dan.
Just goes to show when a tank is doing extremely well and is balanced, even under funky light, the corals look and grow perfectly.

I broke this Acro tip during the weekend cleaning. I added it to my fuge where the other colonies are to see if it grows and how fast getting light from the hydroponic light and the full spectrum light for corals
