DanW's 187 SPS Dominated Reef Journal

How goes it Dan? How's everyone else doing? Been awhile since I have been on here. Checking to see how progress goes. Been busy with my lil frag. I haven't been able to get my 90gal up yet. Work schedule has me bouncing around all hours of the night.
Best Wishes
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Bob!

Sorry for the delayed response. I was going to take some photos and answer but I've not been able to do so then I lost track of time. My son is starting baseball (travel and Little League) and my daughter is trying softball so I've been super busy. Along with unboxing stuff...well mostly just looking at the boxes and telling my wife that'll unbox it. My tank still looks like crap but it's slowly coming around. Unfortunately most of my corals didn't make it so it's bascially a start over. I picked up a few frags a while back, they are on a rack and seem to be doing fine so I might start collecting again...if I can find the time. Great to hear that your spending time w/your little one...time flys by fast so don't miss a second of it.

Cheers...

I can't believe how fast time has gone by and that I haven't posted any meaningful updates. I lost 95% of my coral during the move which was really depressing. Frankly I almost went FOWLR after losing so many pieces but because I had a few survivors, I've decided to start collecting again. I thought that I would post some pictures of the carnage.

These are just some of the pieces that I lost. A larger Rubbermaid bin full of skeletons was accidentally thrown out.

Anyone care for stags:

Although it's hard to tell the exact piece I'll give it a try:

Grafted Simplex anyone?

How about a nice Ponape Birds Nest?

Anyone care for a Rouge Milli?

How about some Key Lime Mango Sherbet?

And finally how about a tall glass of Pink Lemonade?

So sorry to hear about your loss, I hate moving tanks due to loosing stuff :( hope you get all the corals you lost and more to fill it up again.

People pay good money for coral skeletons. You should sell them. Those photos are really depressing. I can't believe your still in the hobby. That is crazy devotion/addiction.

Awe!!!!!!!!!!! Stop it!!!!!!! Thats awful man. I want some happy shots now.

Hey Brett, I'll try to get some "happy" shots posted. The kids activites are keeping me pretty busy these days.

Thanks Michael, have a great honeymoon. Ping me when you get back. If you're already gone...your on your honeymoon man! Go back to...honeymooning :love2:

Yikes! Brings back painful memories :(

Yeah, I remember your mysterious SPS deaths :sad1:

Ya Kovy it's depressing but as you put it in your signature line, I've got ORD. Plus collecting is always more fun than just watching them grow. Thanks for stopping by.

Very nice Dan!

Thanks Brian but I need to take some lessons. Maybe from our mutual friend that lives closer to the sun?

Nice shots Dan, you have great taste in fish.

Dude after seeing your recent shots, I'm jealous of your fish selection.

Haha.......that borb looks PO'ed. What did you do to him?

Kenny that guy is always POed. I've seriously considered pulling him as he is a bully and tries to punk every fish in the tank. Some times I have to get out a long stick to stop him from terrorizing his tank mates.

Hey Dan, I'm sorry to see the SPS graveyard. I moved a few months ago and although everything looked great for 2-months after my move, now things have taken a turn for the worst and most my sps is looking like your pics above.
I hope you're enjoying your new home and I wish you the best.

Thanks Ryan, sorry to hear about your troubles. I know how painful it is.

Sorry Dan to see your pictures, but those pictures look like they were taken at my house.

Good luck with the restocking. Luckily there are so many nice corals out now so some new corals may be refreshing.

Hey Mark, I know that you know the pain. It was hard and had I lost all my SPS I think I would have gone fish only but I felt bad for those few SPS survivors and set up the pendant. It's refreshing to begin collecting again but I do miss seeing healthy colonies in the tank. I'm looking for a particular piece that was my favorite but so far no joy.

I don't follow soccer that much (actually at all) but that story about the guy that had a heart attack during the game was pretty scary.

Good to see you starting up again. The losses are very painful but the corals always seem to grow faster the second time around and even faster the third or fourth time. What was the special piece you were looking for?

Hey Aaron, how have you been? I hope that they grow faster as it's not much fun to see a bunch of nubs in the tank. Sounds like you have some experience in regrowing! I wish you were closer as I know you've got the good stuff, what show are you going to next? CFM maybe? The piece I'm looking for is the Ultimate's Purple Monster. It was one of my favorite pieces, the purple and white was a great color combo and it had an interesting growth structure. I haven't seen anything quite like it. I know that I distributed a few frags but I have no idea to who.
