Dan, if you are going to add another female, I would suggest adding two new female at the same time. IME when just adding one there has been fighting. I have lost a few by doing this. With two new additions you can spread the aggression out. The existing wrasse will most like turn super male fast and be aggressive. JMO :D .

Thanks for the insight Brian, my wallet just started crying.:( Clarification, if only ONE female is added he will turn super male (I love writing that) fast and become aggressive? Or would adding two females turn him into a super male faster and reduce aggression? Sorry I'm easily confused.

Well started a few days ago noticed that one of my colonies had some damaged tips now I'm having issues w/two colonies. I hoping it's because of the bulb change even though I acclimated the tank over the course of a week. The only other change is that I took the calcium reactor offline for a week while it was cleaned and refilled. No other colonies seemed to be affected; I hope that this is not a trend. You can't get Pook Gai via RC can you?

Dan, is it just your tips? How fast did you acclimate your new lights? I try to do that over a 3-4 week period. What bulbs did you go with? Did you change out your T5's as well as your halides?

Geeze Dan,

I hope you don't get the "mystery" bug or whatever it is that poor Kenny has??? Hope it's just a lighting issue that can be more easily dealt with!

I confuse myself sometime. The wrasse you have now will most like become a male see how it is established. Until than there is going to be some fight between the newly added wrasse and the one you have now.

To lessen the aggression I have learned that adding two at a time spread the aggression out. This gives the newly add fish a better chance to settle in.

Once the fight slows down one of the wrasses will become dominate (mostly likely the existing). After that the change from female to sub-male to super male is fast.

Forgot to add that sub male to super male doesn't always happen. Sometime one will never take on dominance and you may end up with two sub-male or one that goes back and forth.

Mark, I acclimated over a one week period or so. Cut the lights down to 4 hours then added 1/2 hour per day until I got to 7 hrs. I did not change the T5s.

Thanks Dave, I'm hoping it's a lighting issue too.

Wow, so much I didn't know about. Just thought that they would reach "Super Male" status just due to age. Need to find me some females!

Thats pretty fast in my experience. I usually start at 3 hours and add an hour every week there after. But thats just my experience and I have always errored on the side of caution.

They can but your odds are better with a few females. Just make sure they are smaller and you use a specimen container. ;)

Humm, maybe I should back off the light. I think that I'll cut back on the photoperiod beginning tonight. Thanks for the input Mark. BTW Ian just left here with a few goodies.

Thanks Brian. These guys are hard enough to find seems like a tall task to find females in a certain size but thats the fun part!

I would, the spectras have some pretty nice reflectors in them.
I might have to give Ian a call tomorrow to get the inside scoop on DanW's tank :p
