DanW's 187 SPS Dominated Reef Journal

south carolina ... probably even a bigger change. As far as the pump system ... if you use peristaltic pumps, you can have your water change station remotely located.
DOH! Sorry just noticed your location and since I live in SoCal, I think the world revolves around us. :hmm3:

I hope that this is OK to post...

Change the dot to .

Otherwise google "Beware Rubbermaid Trash Cans" in the Marine Depot Forum. Post (sorry not an article) is by Eric Borneman, pretty credible source.

Thanks Dan, a very interesting read.

Look what I found in the tank last night...

GOLD!!! What kind of eggs are they?
Proud papa...Actually they have laid eggs (several batches) before in my old tank but this is the first batch in the new tank. I guess my pramaters can't be that bad so someone tell my SPS.

Nice Dan, those times are fun when clowns spawn. Mine spawned 2ice a month for more than a year. I never harvested so no babies for me. FYI, clowns will usually spawn if they are mature enough and are fed enough. My guess is that yours are prolly well fed lately.

Very nice Dan. I would guess that your increased water changes also has a lot to do with their spawning. Either way it's a step in the right direction.

Ah the things we do for our reefs.:crazy1: Funny I see plenty of aptasia and no nudis. How many did you add? After reading the article in Reef Hobbiest (?) I'm thinking of throwing in a Klein's.

Hey Dan, did you decide put a Klein's in to go after the aiptasia?

Congrats on the clowns laying eggs! What are they hosting in your tank? Mine look confused with nothing to host  Do you plan on transfering the eggs to a small tank to try raising the eggs?

Were you ever able to get that kleins outta your tank?

Ryan and Ramzy, Yes I did get the Klein's out of my tank. That little guy was eating what little the zoas/palys I had in the tank as well as eating (or at least picking) at my LPS and SPS. Caused all of my millis to retract their polyps and severely damaged a micromussa. Funny thing is that I didn't ever see him show any interest in the aptasia.

Ramzy as far as the clowns, they hang out in a cave and deposited their eggs along the back wall. This batch hatched (I think) but yesterday they had another one going. Not planning do do anything with them and even if I did they are too far back to get them anyway.

How's everything looking Dano?
Sup Ian, I think my tank has turned the corner towards good health finally. The corals are starting to consume Alk and CA and I'm seeing some recovery and growth tips. At least nothing else has died. The carnage was great though as I lost several colonies and frags, I would guess more than a half dozen of each. Pix from last night:

Glad to see the tank recovering Dan. Did you get a new tang?

What photoediting program do you use; I lost mine in my computer crash :(

Thanks Mark. I'm hoping that the recovery is long term. Yup I picked up a dussumieri and took out the blue tang as he was bullying the trigger plus I wanted a change. As far as a photo editor, I do have Photoshop but I rarely use it. Been using the Photobucket editor, which is really limited.

I though that was a duss. They have so much personality, but they grow so fast. It will be a sad day when I take mine to steinhart for donation :sad1:

Dude, I can see what you mean. He's only been out of QT for about a week but he follows me around as soon as I get near the tank. He also bites at the syringe when I draw water for testing. I'm hoping that he doesn't grow too fast and I can enjoy him for a long while.

Nice pics Dan... looking GOOD!

Have you had the Potters Wrasse and Masuda Hog for long, I don't remember seeing them in your tank before? Like the Dussumieri too!

Thanks

Hey Dave, thanks. The Hog was added in late August/early September. My first Potter's was added in February but it died about 2 months ago during the mass wrasse die off I had. The new Potter's just got out of QT and has been in for about a week and appears to be doing good.

Awwww Dan this is soo cool!! I've never seen this before (except in the movie Finding Nemo haha!). Anyways your SPS looks like it's definitely coming back! I have always loved that pink lemonade colony you got and glad nothing tragic happened to it. Everything is looking good and hopefully this progresses !!Stop slackin off Dan hahahaha jk!! ;)
