DanW's 187 SPS Dominated Reef Journal

Awwww Dan this is soo cool!! I've never seen this before (except in the movie Finding Nemo haha!). Anyways your SPS looks like it's definitely coming back! I have always loved that pink lemonade colony you got and glad nothing tragic happened to it. Everything is looking good and hopefully this progresses !!Stop slackin off Dan hahahaha jk!! ;)
Thanks Kat (you're too funny). Yeah, the PL avoided disaster this time, although it did take some damage, hopefully it will make a full recovery. It was nice to meet both you and Ramzy in person the other day.

Thanks Kenny, keeping my fingers crossed. I'm up that early because I'm old and old people don't need much sleep:sleep: Nah, early in the morning is Dan time...no kids, no wife, no drama...come on you know what I mean.

Actually, I don't. I like to sleep in as much as possible, especially for this old geezer. I doubt that you are that much older than I am. In fact, I think it might be the other way around :crazy1:

Dan-

Cool Duss, I always like the blue which I have seen develop in their tail fin. You mentioned "QT," are you starting to QT all new fish now? Did that Mustard Tang pull through?

It's not the age it's the mileage and I pretty sure I've got you beat on both.:p

Thanks Ryan. Yup QTing all my fish from now on, been playing Russian Roulette for a long time and finally found the chamber. Added a pair of Rhomboids which died in 2 days and then within 1-2 weeks wiped out 5 wrasses, two chromis and a tang. I've not had luck with Mustard Tangs, I'm a 3x loser.

Glad to hear your tank has turned for the best again. Hope your tanks thrives and your clowns wll have some little babies :)

Michael

Good to see things are turning for the better Dan! I see that the QT issues seem to be resolved. Are you run your Ca reactor or dosing?

Thanks Brian. I have been dosing but up until last week, the water changes I've been doing have pretty much kept up with CA/Alk/MG requirements. Since I'm home I gonna bring the CA Rx back on line and see how the tank reacts. I've been running the reactor with new media but with no CO2 for the last 45 or so days.

Good stuff Dan  I too played russian roulette without a QT for years. I am thankful all of the useless hours of searching and reading threads here on RC convinced me to set up a QT system. My wife always asked why I have a 30 gallon breeder set up with no water, and I always tell her "it just in case Fed Ex accidently delivers me some new fishies" :D

I see less and less people having issues with dosing and more people having issue with reactor. While reactor have been around for some time and are proven, I'm starting to wonder if there are issues with some of the medias we you. What media are you using?

vary nice

Dude do you just go on every thread in every section and write "vary nice"??? W-T-F? It's lame. Troll.:wildone:

Sorry Dan I had too hahaha!! Every thread I've been on he's written the same thing from here to the nano section and to wherever else!! Btw, it was great finally meeting you!! Definitely wanna still come by and check out the tank!! :)

Thanks Mark I know it's the right thing to do. I've been addiing things w/o QT for years and finally click..BOOM! Now I just gotta stop killing them in my QT :o

Brian, I have always used CariSea ARM course. The issues **seemed** to accellerate after I changed out the media from a new container, but I was grasping for some potential cause. Don't have a clue if it was a factor but I have pretty much thrown out everthing that I was using and purchased new stuff. This time I trying the Korallin media. Seems to be less porous than the ARM stuff.

You go girl. Look he posted again, bet that a "For Sale" thread is next. You guys are welcome anytime, just wish the tank looked better.

I also you ARM. I will be interested to see if you notice any changes with Korallin. Do you soak your media before use, if so how long?

I usually soak in RODI for 3-4 weeks, stir it when I remember and change the water every week. This is my first time using the Korallin media and the pieces are a little smaller and appear more dense. I also noticed more pieces of shells versus the ARM media. (Don't know if that matters or not.)
