I'm glad people not drinking the kool aid and not putting up with deltec overpriced stuff. $300+ for an AB2001 is CRAZYYYY!!! I don't care if doug comes to my house and installs it for that price. I don't see how people can defend his pricing.

I don't understand freds story. He had such horrible time with ordering a DAS skimmer, i can't understand why he would still tell his friends to buy them.

I guess the performance is just that good. And like i told other in this thread you don't have to put up with horrible CS from petorama. Just order your DAS from ocra systems.

I've got both(DAS / DELTEC) and THEY LOOK THE SAME. Needle wheel is the AB Standard NW that i've seen on the Deltec's, H&S, and DAS Skimmers. but from i hear Deltec conditions the magnets to be better utilize on our current ...

question though,
1)how can u do that, how do u modify a magnet
2) i heard what makes the AB pumps so good is how the unmodified pumps run on our current
3) is this magic that is done worth the extra money
I own both skimmers, to me it's not

If you want anything other than the ex-1 from ocra systems you are going to have to email them. The ex-1 is label DA on their site.

This is just silly. Lets talk performance, for all we know the slight "variation" in the DAS version could be superior. But from all that I have read, they perform the same....

I modded mine to be "better" than the Deltec Aquabee in 15 minutes anyways...

well I did it just ordered me a EX-3 from Petorama. has going to order a orca but it takes to long and I haven't heard from them. and anything that you guy's say that is like a deltec or H&S has to be great...

They sure aren't DeltecRules,

The AB Pump that comes with the Deltec AP600 is the Aqua-Bee 2000, the one on the DAS EX-1 is a Aqua-Bee 2000/1( AKA 2001), so thank you Fred for pointing out they are different :lol: So the better comparison would be with the Deltec APF600 which comes with the AB2001 pump...

Sometimes, esp with German companies, things are modified without significant gains in performance. While I will conceed that there may be less water throughput (and therefore less turbulence) with the Deltec version, the air throughput of the DAS and the Deltec (and H&S) are identical at 500lph.

hey guys, i am setting up my tech 120 and i was wondering what model i should use the ex-2 or the 3, i plan on it being a heavily stock mixed reef.

i would use the ex-2 unless you plan to use a huge sump. Anything under 200gals total system volume i would use the ex-2.

I don't think so. That is the pump i use for the ex-2.

so let me get this right... a DAS is made and designed like a deltec and use's H&S pumps.. So why would anyone not buy one of these skimmers for half the cost??? can't wait to get mine...I'll be sure to post pic's of the beast!!!haha

DAS skimmers are deltec designed, that is why its look the same as the APF600. DAS brought this design from deltec before they sold skimmer in the USA. When deltec starting selling skimmers in the USA they re-designed the AB pumps. H&S and DAS still use the "old" AB 2001 in all their skimmers.


DAS is not a know brand like deltec or H&S so people buy what they have heard about. Also only 2 places sell these skimmer....
