deresa acting weird

I will be taking pictures as I get home. I went away for 3 days and I return to a dead maxxima (that I tryed to save from a fellow reefer) so I kinda expected him to pass. but my other 8 clams are ok. the one deresa next to the lil maxxima is now closed but it appears his shell is off alignment or not closing right. his mantle by the top of his shell looks rough. I feel awful for him, any idea on where I can find clam disease pictures and or treatments.

n e help will be nice

p.s. tank is 33 reef no nitrates no nitrites no ammonia no phosphates
salinity is 1.024 calcium 440ppm
and lights are 6 t5s and have sustained clams and coral for a while

just got home I am going to dip him when ro water warms up.. he had little critters running all over him when I moved him...

Is it possible you have Pinched Mantel Disease going on ? And I agree I would also check for pyramid snails as well.

Good Luck

ok there was no pyramid snails, but bugs galore, looked like copepods but bigger. they were scattering like crazy when I lifted him up and they all died the second they hit ro but balaced ph water. I noticed his shell realigned after I burped him and put him in a tupperware container inside the tank.. so I am going to dip the other clams and set them in elevated containers with fresh live sand wish me luck

yes i had aqua clear powerhead 20, 45 watt heater in a 5 gallon bucket holding about 2 gallons under the bright examination light.. I did all 4 original clams and left the 3 giant deresa's on the other side alone for now. they are looking scared but better. the original deresa pictured above is still looking sad to say the least

heres the picture of the 4 clams I treated. I put them in a tupperware container with brand new live sand. the deresa is looking sad in the right hand side too of the picture

don't be surprised if they die. just my opinion, from looking at the pic, the center one is very questionable..

ok so couple days later the deresa that had the original problem is looking worse... I mean I tried what can I do. the 3 other clams are just starting to reopen after their dips.. I am worried that I stressed them out, but I wanted to be sure.

the issue is that if it is pm, the cause [a protozoan, i believe]is being spread from the ill one to the others. i don't know the incubation period, but keep an eye out.

moliken, when you do a fresh water dip for the clams whats the procedure.. I did 15 min dips and I am worried about these guys. I had them for so long and the deresa was my fav ugh ugh ugh

i fwd for 25 mins, using a baster once or twice to make sure fw gets all inside. however, my clam didn't survive anyway.

A FW dip is recommended for PM to kill the protozoan. If you did the dip proper that should not have killed them. Seems weird. I would check your FW parameters before you do another one.
