Diamond Goby - The Good The Bad

As I walked through ARC thinking about how to keep my sand bed cleaner and fresher I stumbled upon a little Diamond Goby and thought, why not !

Well, he is definitely a workaholic, definitely entertaining to watch, and definitely doing a great job on the sand bed.

However, I do miss my crystal clear water. At first I though it was my skimmer blowing microbubbles then I realized it was sand from Diamond Jim.

So do I give it some time, see if he slows down, or will I have to live with this forever? :headwally:

I had one for about three months and his sandstorm never slowed down. Prior to covering the top, mine jumped as well.

I know how you feel. My BSJF is constantly digging... He is really pretty, but IDK if I'd get another burrowing/active sandbed fish...

I had a pair until one refused to eat anything and starved itself. They were constantly moving the sandbed to suit their desires but it was always nice and clean. Now, with only one, the sandbed is still nice and clean but the water column isn't nearly as cloudy. Neither of them ever tried carpet surfing.

They also spray sand on corals. They starve after a year or two in most reef tanks ,faster with large grain substrate. I would not use crushed coral btw. it gathers too much detritus..
Sand looks great when on is working but not all over the place. I've never had long term success keeping them. A seacucumber and/ or nassarius snails do a nice job on the sand bed too.
