Dive Cert in Key Largo

Is this the same shop you did your open water with? Have you done any diving since your trip in June? Finally are doing Nitrox as part of the AOW and this upcoming dive?

There are some good opened up swim throughs on the upper deck that were created for divers before the Spiegel was sunk. Nice large openings that are well spaced...you can always see light from the next opening before progessing...and if you do the swim throughs, always make sure you the see the light from the next opening...swim to the light ;) Naturally if your not comfortable with that, you are quite to follow your gut and stay out. If you do go for those upper level swim throughs, remember not to go down any companionways into the lower levels. Make sure to do a thorough pre dive briefing with the Instructor and DM, including asking any questions you have and expressing any hesitations with doing swim throughs and plans if your not comfortable with them once you get to the wreck. While the swim throughs are neat, if your comfortable with them, there is plenty to see on the deck level and superstructure. The mid ship cranes and crane control booth are my favorite. mostly open skeletonized structure, lots of life. Also be sure of where on the wreck the boat moors, there are several moorings and it can be good swim if you come up the wrong one ;)

Good advice there. Diving is what got me to start a reef tank.
I dont think you can dive nox without advanced cert anyways.

I've got my Eanx certification without my advanced cert. In fact, I've not done any dives other than my OW (scheduled to dive in Hawaii this weekend :D ) .

However, I agree on be comfortable. Diving in Monterey was bad in terms of viz. Maybe 5-10' of viz with lots of kelp. Being that it was my OW in 50* water, the DM & instructors were good to work with me. When I was not comfortable going solo in the kelp (with them behind / beside me), they just held my hand to go thru. Had good fun without being tensed. Find a good DM and talk to them before going in. That's what helped me.

I'm scheduled to do my AOW with them this weekend. I am in no way "advanced" and wish PADI would change that to something else.

I just want to learn more on PPB and deep before I get into any bad habits. Think my trim was pretty good and felt good after a few reef dives, but I want to work on all that.

Should I be worried these guys are putting me on a deep dive in the first morning of this trip. I feel confident and love getting in... Just wondering if I should be cautious with this dive shop?

Flakeys always send a instructor with you on those dives and no penetration allowed. You will be fine, he won't leave your side.

How long does it take to get dive certified

Depends on you and the class. It can be done in four days or 6 months. Personally, if your not diving with seasoned divers as partners I would not do the four day class. It is a lot of information to absorb and master.

My family and I vacationed in the keys this August. We didnt dive but we all snorkled with Florida Keys Dive Center. They was great, very friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend them to any. After that trip it got me real interested in diving. I am planning on getting my diving cert back here at home so I can go back and dive next spring.

Glad you enjoyed FLAKEYS. I started this thread and am happy people have seen it. If anyone needs help looking for dive shops in the keys pm me. I don't want this old thread to go crazy. Not that I know a lot but I can share my exp with a good #. Going next week hoping to log 26 dives! legs will be like rubber I know.
