"What was wrong with the post?"

Typically they wont tell us OR the poster of the cause of the violation.

They expect us to "know" because we read the "User agreement" which "Reef Central reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time."

So you can sign up and then the terms can change witout any notice (unless you frequent the "User Agreement" page ;-).

I thought reef central was the one constant in a ever changing universe.

I'm not a MOD, but if we keep this up, this thread is going to go the way of a very good skimmer thread for no good reason. Please don't get this closed due to the info contained here.

Some PAR measurements for the records here (click for larger):

1:1 XP-G @800mA and XP-E @ 600mA. Spaced evenly approx. 2.6" apart with 40 degree lenses inside and 25 degree lenses on the outside leds.

LEDs mounted 3ft above surface, water column is 14".

Very small LED setup...

Hey guys,

Its been a long time since I've posted. Have a 2.5 year old boy now, and just dont have much time for these things anymore. I miss it though reading almost all of this 3 split 100 page thread.

I built this tank 5 years ago.

It has actually been running non stop since my build thread in 05. Its been through a lot. Right now I just have some star polyps and a few fish. Ill take a current pic soon. One thing I hate is dealing with finding and changing the two 9watt PC bulbs I have in it right now.

So this brings me here to the DIY LED Thread. I have read a lot and want to post up my build list to see if you guys can confirm I am going in the right direction. I am planning on getting a heatsink from the place below. The tank already has some fans, but I may add one on the heatsink.

Build List
(1) Small 1 Foot Heatsink from Heatsinkusa.com <http://www.heatsinkusa.com/small-profile-aluminum-heat-sink-standard-12-in12.html>
$15(1) 24V @ 6.5A Power Supply from MPJA.com <http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=16854+PS>
$20(2) CREEXRE-W107, White Cree Q5 XR-E Star from LED Supply White Cree XR-E <http://ledsupply.com/creexre-w107.php>
$20(2) CREEXRE-RB, Royal Blue XR-E Star Royal Blue Cree CR-E <http://ledsupply.com/creexre-rb.php>
$20(1) 3023-D-E-350P, Wired BuckPuck With External Pot. Used for Blue LEDs 700mA BuckPuck <http://ledsupply.com/03023-d-e-700p.php>

What do you guys think?

I remember you saying that your PAR increased the farther down you went, but that is just odd looking....

That is only on the very outer edges. This is because the cone of light is tighter at the top and the spread isn't so good closer to the light, so your not catching all of it. The middle portion is not like that. Same thing i got with my measurements.

terahz-Im sorry if I missed it, but what optics are you using for them? I cant find any good XP-G optics at a reasonable price.

What are the reports from the guys using the aluminum u channel instead of the big heat sinks from Heat Sink USA. Are the Leds staying cool enough?
I have about 100' of the 1" wide stuff that was given to me from some guys doing commercial drywall work.
I'm building a unit for a 125 gallon 4'x2'x2' reef tank.
I'm going to use 48 Leds and see what it looks like.
If I remember correctly, it is safe to run up to six meanwell drivers without fear of burning the house down right?
I may order the kit from rapid led and use the dimmable ELN-60-48D drivers that will interface with my RKL ALC. (if I can get it to work)-the info is very sparse on the ALC. It appears that Da has been out stock on those for months now too which makes me wonder why?
This is only my second post on this forum, so I hope I did this right.

I am working a group buy on XR-E leds only if any of you want to get in on it. I can ship the leds once I receive them for $5.55 priority mail. They are for the WE bin for white & the D3 bin for royal blue. We just need a few more orders to get the pricing below...

We have accounted for.... "goal is 250qty of each color"
Royal blue total 205qty - NEED 45 MORE
Cool white total 193qty - NEED 57 MORE

Price at the 250qty per color is as follows.
- $4.25 for royal blues / d3 bin
- $4.65 for cool white / we bin

Let me know if some of you want to get in on this, prices are outstanding.

funny numbers for sure.. How many total LEDs are over that tank? What's the tank's footprint?
