DIY Stands Template and Calculator

Question:

I used 3/4 birch ply only secured with pocket screws and wood glue for my stand no 2x4's. I have seen it done on here before. Was this a bad idea?

If made correctly that will be fine. This thread is for people that do not have the skills to make a stand out of ply.

Filled and sanded everything today and threw on its first coat of primer.

I am still not sure about the final paint. I either want it all black or two tone, one of which is black...lol. I think it would look good with the black silicon, black background, and black light. I could do the piano black finish, but it is incredibly time consuming.

Black high gloss might be nice.

Nope, I wouldn't mind making a stand like that but haven't found any plans or discriptions on how to do it (limited wood working skills :D)

Test fit the tank on the stand today. After seeing the tank on there I have decided to go solid black. I think it will look good with all the black trim. Finished pics next...

Need stand advice!

First the tank is 96" long x 30" deep X 36" tall.BIG..... I need to build a stand for it. it will be in wall, should i build the stand into the wall or seperate? my next problem is my sump is 36" deep. how can i build the stand to hold sump & properly support tank? thanks in advance for the insight

RocketEngineer I need your advice....
I need to build a stand for a 300g tank (or 289) and I wanted to know what modifications to your design do I need to make in order for it to be strong enough?
The tank size is 96"L x 29"h x 24W.
From floor to bottom of tank will be 51"
Thanks for your help. I was looking to start this on the weekend.

A good amount of center supports with the recommend 2x8 should do.

Yea that 96" span is pretty long I might be wrong here but I would think you would have to go with center support/s.

I thought the original post said 2x4 for a 4 foot span, 2x6 for 6 feet and 2x8 for 8 feet. So with 96 inch tank either a 2x8 or a 2x4 with center support.

Yes that is what I read also. I don't see where it says whether or not you should also use a 2x8 for the lower frame also.

Going to give it a few more coats but I am happy with the results.

Why does that wood inside have a greenish cast? It's not treated lumber is it? Bad to have inside since it may affect house plants and pets, and bad for stability since it has been soaked and swollen up with fluids that distort the wood over time.

I think I read the lower rails can be 2x4. The idea is to spread the weight across the floor. The top needs to support the center. Logic tells me that the bottom can be 2x4, but if in doubt go larger.

Yes the lower frame can be all 2x4 or even 2x2 without effecting the strength of the stand, but it will effect the spread of the weight. With a 2x4 or 2x2 frame, most of the weight will be on each leg, not spread out across the total lenght of the stand.
