Do ocellaris host anemones?

Sounds like a stupid question, but ive only really seen them host corals, overflowboxes, return lines. but never seen them host an anemone. im looking for a pair of something, but more choices for occis then percs, and percs will host almost any anemone. I was looking at maybe a occi/perc hybrid to entice a occi clown to host an anemone??

any thoughts? any thoughts what nem a occi wud host?

Just FYI, clowns don't host anemones. Anemones host clowns.

The natural hosts for ocellaris are gigantea, magnifica, and mertensii. If you provide the natural host anemone, the clown will use it as a host. Most people have trouble because they don't provide the correct species of anemone.

Ocellaris will often take up residence in anemones other than their natural host. It may take quite some time, and there's never a guarantee it will work.

Here's one of my ocellaris in a long tentacle/M. doreensis

and here's one in a carpet/S. haddoni

and naturally, they'll always go into their natural host. Here's one in a magnifica

I know this, obviously if they didn't let them host, they would try to eat them like they do any other fish! but the common hobbyist doesn't go by that, usually its worded that my clown is hosting my mushrooms, or my green star polyps, or my leather, etc etc. so thanx for the lesson but I was just goin with the norm!

and its impossible to find nems where im at, im gunna have to google for magnifica that can be shipped to me..still debating on what to pair in my system tho....

Just because most people do something does not make it correct. In this case "the norm" is wrong.

Regarding clownfish hosting anemones eating clown fish, I seen a Haddoni eat a Clarkii (naturally hosted by all the anemones including Haddoni) and an Ocellaris got eaten by a M. dorrensis. In both case were at the LFS. The anemone have been in the tank and new clowns dump into the tank, dive into an anemone and got eaten.

Have a look around the forums on carpet nems first. They are the hardest to keep, Haddoni being easier but still needing special consideration magnifica can grow quite large and can be quite sensitive. The thing that is worst for anemones is shipping, so shipping to the LFS and then shipping to you will put great stress on the anemone so you'll need to be knowledgeable about the treatments and care requirements to ensure you get past the first few months with it. Good luck! The anemone FAQ on here is a good place to start, as well as the stickied posts in this section :)

damn ok my bad I worded it wrong, I just didn't need a lesson. and really orion? ive seen soooooooooo many help full hints that you've provided to many many ppl. im not ignorant and never a problem here. when I used the word norm, it was a general statement. I was traveling in a car and randomly posted the thread. sorry it wasn't technically right for you and elegance(them too ive seen several helpful hints), but id rather not be "schooled" or given examples of how clownfish were eaten by natural host anemones(that even you know is a rare thing, but only was thrown out there just cuz, when I was making a general comment(right or wrong, you both still knew what I meant)...im sorry if im harsh, but I am aggravated by this. which is never the case with me!! yes I worded it wrong, but it was on the fly in the car, just a general question..

Easy killer.

If you've read our other posts, you know we were only trying to help.
We meant no offence, and there's no reason for you to get a chip on your shoulder.

I apologize, I understand I worded it incorrectly. if I had a get together at my house and asked you to come, it wouldn't be you hosting the party, hence nems host the clowns. but the very first line of with the FYI rubbed me wrong as if I needed my hand held, felt like I was being corrected by my parent when it really wasn't needed, then the other parent comes in wit a comment just because... but please do understand you are correct and in the settings I was in. I just threw a post out there in hopes of replies by the time I got home.

The affinity of the clownfish to their natural host is very strong. They may reside in a non-natural host but with much weaker affinity. Once you see the natural relationship between the natural pair, for me, nothing else will do.

makes sense. im gunna have to research what relationships I would like, meaning clownfish/nem pairing. im only used to bubble tips, and with those, I had clarkiis and maroons with them. I under stand mags are just as difficult as gigs, and my system is to young for even a bubble tip or even a long tentacle. my system is only up for 2.5 months. so I have several more months before considering tangs, clams or nems... my lighting is fine with 3x250w halides. I like the look of gigs, not to much of a fan of mags (only cause I don't really see to many colors of them, ive seen the mag thread by the way) so I will have to look around some more and try to decide.

but theres soooo many morphs of occis now a days. and occis can be hit or miss wit nems. well curtain nems.. I wouldn't want to buy a special pair of clowns and them not host an anemone that I would purchase...also wouldn't want to buy something I have NO experience with just to have an anemone that they would pair with.

My Ocellaris clowns almost immediately dove into a Magnifica I got locally. Unfortunately, nem has spent most of its time with me in a HT. Shortly back to the DT though where I expect the clowns to zip right in.

I know yours. when elegance pointed out the nems. I remembered yours perched up in middle of tank, is yours purple?

Yes it is a Ritteri... PM me and we will talk more about a place you can go and Where I got my first from.

These are my occy's and their ritteri. They we in the anemone before I was able to place it on the rocks when I added it.
