I recently picked up one and it is sitting in my qt, it doesnt eat any flakes or pelletes so far. could it just be scared for the meantime? I was told to get mysis but I was wondering would it switch its food type if I keep on trying with dry foods? Thanks

aww that sucks, now its going to be a hassale on me....Are all hawks like this? Is mysis the only shrimp? or are there other shrimps its willing to take?

Had a long nose with a spotted hawk... both ate frozen food and live guppies ( bad for their health ? )...

I had one and it always found the smallest holes in the tank to jump out of. Make sure your tank is secure! Plus they tend to like eating pepermint shrimp or cleaner shrimp so keep an eye out if you have those already.

Some do... I had mine housed prior in a 55 with a pair of skunk, fireshrimp, CBS and a bunch of peps, with no murder going on...

So far this hawk is quit werid first it sat on my powerhead couldnt see, so I turned it so it couldnt sit. Now it sits on the suction brackets of my mj and now I cant see it. It sure loves height. I'm going to turn it once more lol.

That's exactly what hawks do.
Find a high place to perch upon and survey the tank.
They don't have swim bladders so they rest alot on rocks and powerheads.

Also the only thing mine eats is frozen foods. But since I only feed my tanks frozen foods this is not a problem for me.
Also watch out like others said with shrimp, he leaves my cleaner alone but it's big, he has eaten other ornimental shrimp.
He also has tagged a hermit or two when they are trying to switch shells.

Most inverts that are there already prior to him being settled in will pretty much be safe.. but anything you add invert wise is a free for all after he's settled.
