Dr. Foster and Smith Divers Den Anemone Survival Thread

Hi Kevin,

I received an alert email letting me know H. Magnifica were back in stock. I was wondering how long is the QT time and waiting period for anemones outside of the Diver's Den.

Kevin: I ordered one of the LA mags and received it on wednesday. So far it quickly attached and inflated. It is not quite as pretty as the one I ordered from DD that quickly died, but I'll take a healthy mag over a prettier sick one any day. I'm not sure if it is a tad bleached or just its normal color. From my limited experience with this one I'd day your chances are just as good with an LA than a DD. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed though.

I want to apologize for the delay in responding to these questions.

RobNJ,
For non Divers Den or (WYSIWYG) Anemones, the length of time varies regarding how long anemones are held prior to shipping from California. Factors such as the water condition of the inbound shipment of anemones from overseas, length of transit time, supply region, and finally the anemones appearance and behavior after acclimation are all criteria used to determine this time frame.

tufacody,
I am glad to hear that your new anemone is making a smooth transition into your aquarium.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has participated in this thread once again, and want to wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season!

Regards,
Kevin Kohen

the new descriptions are nice but does anybody else think we're asking a little too much from liveaquaria? i mean a specific description for each nem? i agree with listing the color of the base and the general size but these paragraph descriptions are a little too much to ask for IMHO.

also this thread gives a false impression of the survival rates for those who may search for info on liveaquaria. the people who have had issues are much more likely to reply than those who have had no problems at all.

great responce and great service btw kevin

regards

Wow bring a old thread from the grave. But this was a great one that really opened up my eyes to the workings of how they deal with their nems.

Just got my plta 4 days ago from liveaquaria dd.... Hasn't planted and won't eat. Mouth wide open. We will see if it lives. It looks great otherwise so I hope it is just trying to calm down from the horrifying shipping process!

I have lost an RBTA and a green carpet within the last few months. Same problems as Mrsbmckee. They gave a refund so no real complaints.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, I ordered a doreensis or Aka long tentacle or corkscrew anemone for my pink skunk clowns. In no way was this the same anemone that was shown in the WYSIWYG picture posted on divers den. I have years of experience keeping anemones, and allrhough it has not died at least as of yet it was a completely different color then the one pictured and definitely not the 7 inches as stated. Its still a nice light purple color but definitely not the dark rich purple one that was pictured. And after paying $120 bucks for a 7 inch long tentacle anemone and another $50 on top of that to ship it to me I am not impressed AT ALL with what I received. If I wanted a reg purple long tentacle I could go to the local fish store and pick one up that is bigger in size and probably much better in color for less than half the price of what I purchased it for and that's not including shipping! Just being honest!

I didnt know a thread like this was out there, but i must say the S. Haddoni i bought about 2 weeks ago from divers den looked EXACTLY the same as the WYSIWYG picture down to the stripe. I couldnt beleive how closed the mouth was on the anemone when i recieved it , being it was a haddoni i expected more trauma. I think the several heat packs along with the LARGE amount of water it was shipped with really did make a difference. The fact my clowns want nothignt o do with it is nor here nor their as i receieved a beautiful animal from live aquaria. Sorry for the bad cell phone picture. Ive also lost a few smaller fish on my first fish order with Dr. foster and smith and i must say the customer support and knowledge of their team is exceptional. I would never hesitate to do buisness with them again. Its nice to see such a well run orginization.

Old thread but Kevin was willing to change to his way to detailing the anemones.

Alot of companies that do Mail Order are going out of business and Live aquaria is still around.

They charge a higher price but they also boast about how they quarintine. So i wanted to know how long they have it and the lighting. Same thing i would ask a LFS.

Hate to ask this question after the post.
What are the paamaters of you tank.
salanity , nitrates , you are using ozone what is the redox # you are shotting for.
Are you feeding animals if so what
Any iodine , amino acids
What ae you doing to make them happy healthy
Lighting how high above water time lights on .
I havent ordered from you .
I use anothe on line vendor who ships to me very little water
They lasted over 6 months
Try to teach us what you do to keep them healthy.
Thanks sorry for long post

over the years i have taken the good with the bad. dfs also have stood by their waranty with little or no problem. i think im done ordering the less hardy nems though. i just got a gigantea and im really crossing my fingers. its not looking so good. dd packed the box well. but in saying that i got an order one time where the water was way too cold. all three pieces died. could of been the heat packs didnt work right. not sure. but they were in the box. so after reading all the posts im kinda concerned about people getting the wrong nem. i have two that will ship out monday. i always copy the pics and for the most part i think ive always gotten the one i ordered. they had three crispas in the last two days and some nice bubbles. the bubbles will be easy to tell because the one i got is supposed to have a pink colum and the others are listed with tan. but the crispa i got was to be like 11 inches and had the nicest color and look about it. so in keeping with the post i will make sure and update on their progress after i get them. nice thread by the way.

I ordered a multicolor gig a month or so ago from dd and it was doa (gaping- spewing mesenterial filaments), I was promptly refunded. A week later, I bought a small neon green haddoni for my empty breeder tank and it's doing very well. I buy most of my fish from them too. They are the leader no doubt.

The Haddoni in my avatar was purchased from DFS back in November. I received it on the 20th of November and besides the expensive snacks it has had, it has been a model citizen.

This is an amazing thread....I have been checking DD web page everyday for a gigantea. but the web page says out of stock.....but now that i have seen there response to this thread i will wait until they get one in as they sure sound like they no what there doing......Thanks and If you get a gigantea in let me no.....I would have no problem posting here how it was shiped and how the animal came in....

Purchased a purple LTA

From LA to Detroit

Anemone arrived in great condition, planted and stayed put hours after aclimation, fed the next day. living well and growing to this day.

had for about 6 months

IMO the healthiest anem I've ever purchased online or at LFS

I bought three BTAs from reefhotspot.com. When they arrived they were half bleached. After the two week guarentee was up they all got tares on their feet and died shortly after. The other BTAs & RBTAs in the tank were perfectly fine.

one of my friend got a tan gig from dd and it survived---very lucky. but he's moved outa NYC now.

now im just wonderin if they can expand their biz to canada so i can enjoy the service u guys are now enjoyin.

They don't come in very often and when they do they are usually gone in seconds. I have received their sneak peak e-mail for about a year now and I have seen 4 total in that time frame, and all of those were in the last two months.
