This hobby is all about personal preference. What works for some may not work for others. All I have done since being in this hobby is listen to what everyone has to say , because inevitably there are varying opinions and I then take what I can and form my own. I know that there are a few people in this club whose advice I would take each and every time it was offered because I have talked to them for hours at a time and seen the results over and over. 2 of them posted in this thread and thier advice is solid. There is validity toeveryones advice because , it has worked for them at some point... Good luck man , and again call me if you need anything...

That is hands down the most insightful post in here. Eric is completely right, and I know what two people he is talking about. There is a wealth of knowledge in this club, and it has always been there for me as well...

Keep an eye on your water parameters, and stay the course, it will work out.

Thanks Coolfish....good reading!

I believe I am going to break down my sump and do a good cleaning for a day on it. The skimmer, return pump, lines, and tank.

While the fish are in QT, get a sterilizer and add it to the return line, and hopefully get the tank a little more cleaned up and ready for the reentry of the fish. Couldn't hurt to be a little more safe? Just a little more added insurance.

Don't forget most reading recommends leaving the DT fallow for 6-8 weeks. If you quarantine, but don't leave the DT fallow long enough, you run the risk of re-introducing the fish to the same situation and will have stressed the fish out for no reason...

Had my first casualty this morning...one of my oldest...the red spotted goby. I believe I saw the blenny picking on him earlier yesterday and that may have been the case.

On a better note, seems like everything in my tank is going into reproduction overtime! I have got a bunch of new nacerrius (sp) snails and about 10 million shrimp fry floating in the main tank. My only guess is the peppermints hatched out from the large egg sack that one of my peppermint shrimp was carrying a few weeks back. Now that I have to leave the tank fallow for another 5 weeks, I may have some actually make it.

The fish are looking noticeably better besides for the hippo. she isn't rubbing on the PVC in the tank, and eating quite well, but noticeable spots on her. I'm just hoping for no more casualties.

That sucks, sorry about your hippo. The baby shrimp will be good foos for the corals and fish very rare if any make it to adult shrimp in your tank. Too many death traps with the fish, corals ,inverts and filters/pumps.

Sorry to hear about the hippo... Just keep doing the right things... This type of thing comes with the territory in reef keeping, the trick is to try and keep it to a minimum

That's what I was thinking...I hope some make it to help boost the peppermint population. If 3-4 make it then i'll be happy

Yeh I agree Eric....get with me on how much you want for that UV sterilizer and I'll pick it up this weekend with Friday's pay

they are probably mysis rather than baby peppermints. it takes a very deliberate effort with a very specially designed tank to raise baby shrimp. basically if they bump into a solid surface they die.

Hmm....where did I get the mysis rather than them being frozen food?

I saw one of my peppermints that had a bunch of eggs under its back tail a few weeks ago...maybe I'm wrong? They all come out at night though when the moonlights are on and I see them flicking around the uppermost portion of the tank.

try to take some pics.

sorry to hear about the fish.
good luck with the hatchery/feedery

Here is 2 small vids....can't really capture them with the camera by taking pics. They are still a little blurry, but you get the idea on how many come out at night.

That is freaking awesome, thanks so much for posting, i hope a few make it.
you can actually make them out well in the video.
Always wondered why more people dont raise shrimp, but if they die when they run into something solid i can see why.

Good luck with the rest ktnjer thanks for the vids

No problem! It seems during the day they aren't visible, but once the night lights come on, they are abundant! Still as many as there was the first night I noticed them.

The pods look like cockroaches in a crackhouse in the tank as well! I've saw some white wiggly worms swimming around also. Maybe 1/4" in length and they seem to spiral. Alot of things in there since the fish aren't present.

I think I may put another bottle of pods in the main tank just for good measure and try my hand at another Mandarin in a few more weeks.
