Drs. Foster and Smith SALE!!

Also.......many people buy the units on ebay, and seem to have ok results with them, but as far as overall quality, they won't match up with the vendors above.

With RO/DI units, the quality of the membrane is the biggest variable in my experience. The drinking units also typically use an additional carbon filter on the end to supplement the flavor. Also, the prefilters on the reef based units will pull out more dissolved solids causing your membrane to not have to work quite as hard and last longer. Same goes for the membrane working better to help the DI resin last longer.

I'm not an expert, but I know some of the basics.

If you have more questions, there is a water filter specialist that's a Team RC member. His screen name is AZDesertRat. You could PM him with questions, and he could tell you anything you want to know. His profession is water treatment. Unfortunately, RO/DI is one of those things where you almost always get what you pay for. Best of luck.

dam what size tank you got?

I have a 150 tank with a 100 gallon stock tank sump. I do a 50 gallon water change every other week so I get about three water changes out of a bucket.

I bought my ro unit off ebay. it was 99 dollars it is a water general unit. it is a good unit. I replaced the sediment, carbon and membrane after a year I bought them from buckeye. The unit is worth the savings. but you will have to replace the filters a little early. The original ro filters made my 250+ tds water 4 out of the ro membrane then di took it to 0 now the water out of ro is 1 and after di it is 0. As long as your water is 0 tds you are good. the rejection rate on the ebay units are just a little worse than the dow units I buy from buckeye.

How much was it for 2 buckets with shipping? also is there a way to determine how much shipping is before check out? free shipping after certain $$$ ?

Shipping is based on dollars spent not on weight with a cap after several hundred dollars. When I buy from them I usually buy 4 or 5 buckets of salt. Then I either store it until I use it or offer to sell part of it to others in the club and we split the shipping. When you buy 5 or six buckets shipping is only a couple of bucks per 160 gallon bucket. I too have found their shipping to be very quick to our area and they tell you how much you can spend before incurring the next higher shipping charge level.

I don't have enough experience to talk the merits of one salt over another but I have had several experiences with Dr. Foster and Smith and they have always been prompt and easy to work with.
