drummereef's 180g in-wall build

+1 on the bartletts. I think they are good to start with first over Lyretails. Lyretails IME appear to be a bit more aggressive than bartletts. Not that either are overly agressive but if you decide to add both or different species you might want to check out which ones are more aggresive.

I have ignitus/purple queens/bartletts in my tank right now and none of them fight at all. The only male I have is a bartlett and he lets the new additions in the tank know he is the male within 5 minutes but never does anything else.

If I can recommend anything for anthias is to add them all at one time, regardless of species if you can. They will school together better rather than having 3 different schools like mine :D

I got them from Seascape Studio the day they came in after haggling with the store manager about how I couldn't afford them, but I really wanted them, but how I couldn't afford them:D He made me an offer I couldn't refuse though:)

Yes, they are in my SPS tank with the 8 Lyretails. They were bullied a bit and stayed in the rocks the first few days, but the male wouldn't back down and eventually they all came out and now are coexisting just fine. Seascape had four more today, but I didn't have the cash or I would have added them as well. I have plenty of room for them all.

Whoa, good timing! Seems like everytime I'm in there all they have is Xenia and some Damsels left. Just kidding. Glad to hear they are doing well. I'd love to see the tank again sometime. I bet it looks amazing with the shoals of Anthias in there. :)

Great, thanks for the info Josh. Bartletts are beautiful fish, might be a little out of my price range at the moment that's why I'm leaning towards the Dispars. I'm looking for a group of fish with orange/red coloration which I think my tank is lacking in. But if I could afford a shoal of Bartletts I would definitely be all over it. ;)

The Carberryi Anthias also look interesting. Anybody with any experience with these?

Still fairly colorful but half the price. :D I'm looking for a group of fish with orange/red coloration which I think my tank is lacking in. Live aquaria has lyretails for $13 right now.

I'm considering some new additions in the coming week. I had my mind set on Lyretails but the more I think about it I'm leaning towards Dispars now. Just because they are slightly smaller overall. 1 male and 3 females. Thoughts?

I have a little school of dispars, they are my favorite fish

That what I was waiting for update :)

What was the size of the flexible PVC tube that you used? and how did you attached the tube with the overflow? did you glue the tube with the overflow pipe

Brett,

Do you find yourself leaving your background off more than on? I have still yet to find anything easy to put on and take off that I like. I think half the reason I love no background is I spend more time looking at the tank from the back than I do the front.

I noticed your algae clip. I had a friend over the weekend recommend me the new Two Little Fishies magnetic algae clip. It's fairly new and although I'm not a huge fan of TLF stuff, this one looks pretty good. I know I'm tired of sticking my arm half way into my tank :)

I'm a little concerned with magnets in the tank rusting but I don't leave them in long enough to worry about it and dry my stuff after taking it out.

We have been using the TLF Veggiemag for a month and couldn't be happier with it. You don't even have to get your hand wet to remove the clip. ;)

Hey salali, I used 1.5" Flex PVC for some of my plumbing. It glues into fittings just like rigid pvc pipe. I used a specialized glue for Flex PVC which you can get at pool supply companies and readily online. ;)

Yes, I only use a background for pictures. I enjoy sitting in the sump room to view the tank, which is also where I feed as well. The fish will come up to the surface of the tank when they see me walk in. I still plan on something a little more robust than a couple pieces of poster board but my motivation has been elsewhere lately.

I need to pick one of those magnet clips up. I saw Prop-Frags video where he used one to feed his fish. They look like the perfect solution. :)

Sorry if I missed it.. but what kind of coral is this??
I absolutely love it!!!!! :inlove:

You have one Gorgeous Tank!!!! :bounce3:

Thank you thebkramer. :) It's a Pink Pocillapora, but it's more of an orange pocillopora at the moment because it browned out a bit through my Dino issues. It was a bright pink for a few months before I had to do a couple lights out periods.

I need one of these! :D Does the clip side float then when you take the two sides apart?

Yes it will float. We just guide the clip to the top w/the outside magnet to remove it.

btw, Brett, your tank is looking great. Looks like you beat that nasty dyno outbreak.

Brett,

I also noticed from the FTS from the back...your substrate seems to be VERY spread out evenly. Have you not had any problems with the vortechs moving it around? I've got a couple derasas that refuse to allow sand around them.

I'm constantly battling to vortechs/clams to keep a nice even look.

great pictures Brett

Thanks Pete. :)

Great, I'll definitely have to pick one up. The Dinos are still hit and miss but the corals are recovering nicely. There's a couple that still seem to attract the Dinos more than others for some reason but yes the tank does look a ton better. :)

Actually the most problem I've been having is with the Tunze pumps on the back glass. The way I have them pointed hits the front glass and blows straight down onto the sand, which intern moves it around. I have to groom the sand every couple of days so I'm experimenting with different placements to see if I can eliminate that. But to answer your question, I don't have any issue with the Vortechs moving the sand around but I have them fairly high up in the tank. :)

Great to see an update & all looking great - great photo's

Thanks Michael B. :)

+1 love it. Tanks looking great.

Thank you aquaph8. :)

Wow. First of all, Drummer: GREAT TANK!!! But I would like to know: If you could go back and do it all over, what would you do differently. All the way back to when you made the stand, did the plumbing, put the water in, all that fun stuff.

Fishmonkey.....

Brett and I had almost similar builds and timeframe. One thing I wish I did differently, I would have cycled my dry rock for a minimum of 6-months in a brute type tub. Brett was even more diligent then me and we both battled a cycling issue with the dry rock. Matter of fact, 15 months later and I am still fighting GHA.
