Like the Florence Knoll-style chair as well. I've been collecting mid century stuff for awhile - have a pair of Homecrest siesta loungers, various McCobb pieces (including a low 6 foot credenza with green grasscloth doors), and a really nice very rare pre-Dux Folke Ohlsson 'Sonnet' chair. This is the aesthetic I was going for when designing my setup. I see you've kept everything (including the rockwork) minimalist as well. Minimalist is the look, IMO - and it fits really well with mid century swag. You pulled it off well!

Looks really good, great job

Dustin, the tank looks great! The place looks pretty sweet, too! :-)

Thanks guys. Definitely what I was going for.

Any advice on building a similar stand? what kind of wood, and did you paint it only? or did you add some sort of cover to the wood? thanks

ah i actually read the posts above. sorry. So you just covered with ply wood? then sanded it to a good finish then painted? what kind of paint...lol im not very crafty at all.

Excellent work! Stand looks great and I really like the light tree you built. I considered that as well with mine.

Gotta love the slim and powerful ATI fixtures, too!

Well done.

wow I love the tank and stand you built! i wish i was that handy lol good job. can't wait for you to stock the tank!

Thank you very much. It was actually my first wood-working project, but my cousin had a lot of knowledge and helped a ton.

That's correct on covering with ply. I covered with 1/4" plywood and made the top, doors, and trim out of 3/4" ply to give it a nice finish. I painted 2 coats of Kilz primer and then painted with a 15 year latex paint from Lowes.

Going to follow this build. Thats once nice stand .

Thank you!

Update Time!!!

A lot has changed since I last updated the thread. Work has me extremely busy and I've not had a lot of free time to stay up with the thread, but I have found plenty of time to pick out many different coral frags. I'm completely done adding fish other than adding a Mandarin a little later, once I know there is more than enough to keep one fat and happy.

My current Fish list is: Blue Hippo Tang, Yellow Tang, 5 x Dispar Anthias, 2 x Occ Clowns, and a Tailspot Blenny.

Below are a few pics I snapped with my phone today. They aren't the best pics and most of the corals are tiny sticks, but it's a start. As you can see, I picked up 8 frags today that are resting on the sand bed as well.

Skimmer Update

I felt the Vertex Omega was extremely well built and it pulled some pretty nasty skimmate, but I did not love the skimmer. I was planning on ordering a Skimz SM161 skimmer because I previously owned the SK 181, but I found the new RLSS skimmer line with DC pumps and was extremely intrigued and had to do some research. There was not much out there about them, but everyone who had one loved it. I decided to order the RLSS R6i skimmer with Waveline 3000 DC pump and to this point I couldn't be happier. I just placed it on my system about 2 days ago and here are a few shots.

Less than 24 Hours active

I would go with the RLSS over the skimz. The skimz probably uses thicker acrylic, but so far I love the RLSS and feel it is perfectly balanced. The skimz wasn't a bad skimmer though and that's what I planned to get until I found the RLSS.
