dvanacker's 200g SPS tank......

Darryl, a week ago I came across a post of yours whilst reading a thread either on RC or maybe on R 2 R (which I also frequent visit). You posted on someones SPS thread asking how they obtained excellent SPS colours. The post was probably from a couple of years back, forgot how old the post was, but it must have been at least a year or so old.

Anyway, now that you have attained excellent SPS colouration in your own tank; what factor or factors do you think has contributed most to your SPS colour?

I would honestly appreciate if you can take a few minutes to discuss this and throw a few pointers my way.

Many thanks.

Thanks everyone.

Ha....like most I was probably looking for that magic potion that would make my tank look like a TOTM.

For me the difference now is not lighting, flow or chemistry. I had all those down before but what has really gotten me the colors I was after has been a higher bioload, more FOOD but also just as important better filtration to remove waste before it can break down to harmful NO3 and PO4. I use a large skimmer, more frequent water changes and as use biopellets.

I got the idea of high import of food and high export of waste from reefbum.

Another bonus to this methodology is lots of heathy fat fish....never had that before.

When are you coming to visit California? I think the wife deserves another honeymoon. I'll take that green polyp lokani, northern delight, bubble gum, sunset, and the cash money. Thanks D! oh and if you have room for that my miami with boobies chalice I'll take that as well.

Just sharing a pic I took yesterday. It's one of my sunset millepora frags. Picture was taken out of the water (so I got a nice clear one) and the polyps are retracted. Hope you like.

Preach Brother! One of the best methodologies to follow.. Has worked very well for me as well!

That is Kevin Barry's sunset millepora Dave. I've had that one forever as Im sure have you.

So what is your feeding routine Darryl?
Nothing ground breaking. I have omega one flake on fish feeder that goes off twice a day. I feed 2 cubes of PE mysis (the best mysis) two or three times a week. On days when Im not feeding mysis I alternate between NLS pellets and 1/3rd sheets of nori. I used to use a coral food but haven't done that in a few months.

The only additive Im using is warner marine ultimate snow to battle the cyano. Cyano free for while now.

Many thanks for your input. Your tank is exceptional and I needed to ask my question. Appreciate your thoughts. :)
