EcoTech Radion vs Aquaillumination Sol

How is that? What's the major difference as you see it?
Price: Ecotech is 42% more
Controllable output channels: Ecotech has 50% more
RGB for infinite color spectrum: Ecotech only
LEDs: Ecotech has 42% more.
wattage: Ecotech has 78% more

A more fair comparison would be to compare 1.5 AI Sols to 1 Ecotech Radion.

More like two AI Sols to one Radion. A 1' Vertex Illumina can do a 30" x 30" tank because of no optics and 16 LEDs packed so tightly together in each pod it's like a MH bulb so trying to compare these differant units is very hard.

A Vertex fixture can do a 24" deep & 24" back to front tank and 1' wider tank than the length of the fixture so a 1' can do a 2' tank, a 2' can do a 3' tank and so on......

I asked this question in the PA thread about the 260's and was told they do not cover very much beyond their length. DO you have any pics to show the coverage?

Sorry but I'm not sure I follow you. I did not mention nor include the Vertex in my comparison. I stand by my comparison of 1.5:1 on the AI:Ecotech.

I wonder if you can program storm mode with lightning and crashing waves. it will make AI storm mode look silly without the crashing waves.

might need to have the fans blow down into the tank to create some wind effects...

I really like this scenario but not in a reef tank with fish and other live animals. I would like to see this scene in a water tank with some model ships! For real. If they do, I might just setup one or two.:fun4:

1) One with the Spanish Armada or Captain Jack Sparrow's Ship
2) One with the Japanese Yamato
may be even
3) One with Gundams and the Crabs

so true Alrha, the wind too.

Flashing lights are terrible for fish and should never be used. Lightning storms are nothing more than a gimmick and not beneficial to our reefs in any way.

seems like AI is still the most powerful.

I think how powerful each system is irrelevant because no one will run either fixture at 100% on all channels. If the AI puts out more PAR it is because of the optics used. (That can be good or bad depending on your own feelings. Personally, I hate optics because they create hot spots.)
