EcoTech Radion vs Aquaillumination Sol

Wondering how these might compare. Aquaillumination has pretty much held the top seat for LED lighting and EcoTech must be aware of their products. Curious to see in what ways the Radion might surpass the Sol, and in what way Aquaillumination will not be beat.

Thoughts?

I will bet there be a lot of AI and Maxspect Mazarra for sale, in the trader sections. ;)

Competition is great, especially from a top company.

According to e-mail I got from EcoTech their LED's will be full spectrum. Here it is:

EcoTech Marine Introduces the Radion XR30w LED Light

September 1, 2011, Bethlehem PA – EcoTech Marine is proud to announce its latest product, the Radion XR30w LED light.

True to EcoTech Marine design standards, the functionality of Radion matches its sleek aesthetic. Created with the most discerning hobbyist in mind, the Radion includes top quality Cree and Osram LEDs and features fully adjustable color and intensity.

"The Radion represents what we believe will be the next step for aquarium lighting: a smarter, easier to use, and more energy efficient alternative to existing lighting products," said Tim Marks, president of EcoTech Marine. "Our hope is that our customers will enjoy the extensive thought and care put into the design of every feature, function, and the distinctive appearance of the Radion."

Radion was purpose-built to be upgradeable both through its modular driver and LED cluster design, modular optics, as well as its USB firmware.

"Our goal was to deliver a product with the ability to evolve and get better over time– and not become obsolete," said Marks. "As technology moves forward, the Radion will be upgraded with new functionality in addition to what it has right out of the box."

Radion is an innovative addition to the EcoTech Marine line of VorTech pumps and aquarium products. With advanced features packed into an efficient and stylish product, the Radion is an LED that looks every bit as good as it performs.

Radion will be available by the end of October through EcoTech Marine’s network of retail outlets around the country and will debut at the upcoming MACNA trade show in Des Moines, IA on September 9.

seems like it's also a bit wider, but thinner and has more LED's (price also appears to be significantly higher).
battery backup probably is not useful for a longer period of time, and in reality, if lights are off for a short period it's probably no big deal.

The only thing I would suggest is they add some yellow LEDs. I currently run an RGB system and think yellow would have really helped in the end.

Other than that you know this system will top notch and very user friendly!

I will probably buy 2 in 3-4 years. That's about how long it took them to make the vortech a decent pump.

They were also a brand new company at that point. I am confident that a LOT more R&D and product testing went into this than the first Vortech.

Sounds like a great system, will be great for small tanks if 1 fixture per 40 gal then my system at 250gal, i would need 6 at $700 each? i can't afford that!!

I am curious about the mounting height for that 24"x24" coverage. One of the descriptions states :
Output engineered for wide dispersion of light
With that I think the height would be very close to the top of the tank. If that is the case then with all that wattage you should be able to raise it like you can with the AI and achieve a greater spread. Yes you would have to run at a higher wattage/percentage but c'mon at 130w's you are going to have to run them super low or fry your corals.

Not to mention how much more money they have these days. Best customer service in the industry as well since day one.

I am going on 18 months on my Vortech and it is still perfect. No noise issues and I've never had to replace a thing on it. Plus all of the components they will be using have been used by others. This isn't some ground breaking new item like a Vortech was back in the day.

One of my Mp40 pumps is a gen 1. Its now an es. Not sure any other pump out there has that longevity. Sure I have rebuilt the wet side a few times especially in the beginning but its not everyday a company comes around that WANTS thier product to last that long and be upgraded to the new version.

Sounds like this could be the same way.

I'm in!

Now the prices on all those fixtures need to come down $200 and everyone will be happy.. lol.
