Ed Very nice. It is going to be a true piece of art work. One question. Is the metal frame supported on top of the white cabinet structure, or does it go through it to the floor for support or both?

Thanks for your kind words SuperR. If I knew I could come back so soon, I might not start this tank as it's a lot lot lot lot of work to set-up a new tank and very time consuming....!! :eek2:

I'm now trying to get it up and running soonest possible so I can start adding in corals and fishes, which is my fav part but guess even at super speed, I will still need at least 2 weeks before I see water, I think?? :rolleye1:

Can't wait too see the aquascaping on this Ed. Do you already have the rock?

WOO HOO!!!!!! Ed's back!! So excited for you and looking forward to following what I am sure will be another out-of-this-world build!!

The metal stand actually goes through the cabinet structure - so in short, the whole metal frame is a free standing frame, and incorporated into the cabinet stand.

Hope I explain it well...

Ed,
Tagging along for the new ride. Lurked for a number of months on your last build, and I'm going to try and do verticle rock formation similar to your old tank in my current build. I started a build thread too here:

My 90Gal build - Eurobrace and External overflow Mods

Can't wait to see how your latest one turns out, and I want to master the art of taking awesome reef shots as well!

Cool...your build seem to be going well...

I'm now subscribe to your build :D

"Thanks FadeToGrey.... your avatar name reminds me of myself

Oooh and WELCOME to my build thread "

Lol, thanks Ed. Your build is very inspiring! LOVE the stand and wish I could find something like it.

Ed, make sure you seal that inner edge of the newly cut wood against any moisture. You don't want it to begin swelling up.

Thanks Marc - it's seal. If you look at the picture carefully, you can see the white sealant usually used for bathtubs all around the edge...!!

BTW, a little bird told me about this month's TOTM - CONGRATULATIONS...!! :D

Ed, I'm talking about the fresh cut holes you made. Seal those inner areas.

I don't know what that bird told you, but it would be best to just not discuss it. Things change quickly and decisions are a group effort. Once anything is announced, that is the best time to talk about it.

Ooops....taken note!!

LIGHTS INSTALLATION

LIGHTS INSTALLATION

OK, to get everyone's mind away from my earlier posting, here are some updates on my lighting....

Now that my cabinet and lighting fixture is completed, I can installed my lighting…

One of the things I want to achieve with the light frame is to be able to easily remove each of my LB reflectors individually, including my LED Moonlight for easy maintenance, repairs and replacements.

With that, I uses cables connectors to connect each reflectors so it’s a simple plug/ unplug. Each reflector is also attached to the lighting frame with simple screws.

LB reflector cable with plug-in:

And this is now it looks like….

Even my LED Moonlight is using a plug-in for easy removal/ replacement…

LightingFixture13.jpg

I also installed 6 power plug with 4 build in timer for both my Galaxy and Ice Cap ballast on top of the lighting frame so that only a single black cable will come down to the cabinet, instead of many!!

This should keep the cabling clean and neat above the display tank.

Power plug extended to canopy:

A total of 6 power points are fix on to the back of the frame. These 6 power points will have their own timer control

Build-in timer extended to canopy:

Trust me it was not easy to find timers with English labels here so I’m pretty please I found those.

MORE ON LIGHTING......

MORE ON LIGHTING......

Light framed completed and getting ready to be hung:

Both my Galaxy and Ice Cap ballast are secure onto the lighting frame as well…

And the hanging kit works as advertise… although I was a little worry on all the additional weight from the ballasts but it seems to balance well.

LightingFixture19.jpg

Only one thing I wish the 2-point would be better if it’s slightly wider as I feel it’s a tat narrow but is still able to balance a 1m wide frame….

Anyway, with the vote leaning towards a floating canopy top, I will have to find myself a stronger hanging kit and start working on making a wooden frame to match the stand!!
