Oh I'm well aware that I won't be able to use everything in the US. But the tunzes, vortechs, and halides all can be used on either voltage and Hz from my understand. The skimmer pump, main return, and closed loop would have to be replaced but that is a minor cost compared to the entire system. Thanks for the heads up though!

True - the wavemakers (Stream, MP40w, etc) can be used in both voltage and it's only the returns/ skimmer will have to be sold there...

Sorry for the OT Ed. Guess we'll need some more pictures to get this thread back on track. :D

No worries on OT..... keep the thread warm up for me while I get the pictures loaded :D

looking reall good Ed. I am very impressed, i love shallow tanks. Where in China are you from? I spent 2 months in wuhan two summers ago.

I'm actually not from China but working as an expat here. I'm based in a city call Fuzhou, China.

Hope that explains why I don't read/ write Chinese :D

Ed, i did made a trial run at aquascaping today. would you rather a separate thread or could i post here to get your opinion?

No problem posting here... I don't mind.

Might be good too as there are others who can share their thoughts/ opinion

:p

Ed,

Do you have experience housing palys/zoas in a zeovit tank? Im wondering if zoas and palys will live in a zeovit tank?

Also, do you use the zeovit KZ carbon? Will I notice a difference if I switch over to using the kz carbon? Im using normal carbon on my zeovit tank.
thanks

No problems housing palys/ zoa in a Zeo tank. Plenty of zeo tanks with palys/zoa. I will be getting some zoa to give soem colors to some parts of my scape :p

As for KZ carbon, it's a lot milder compare to the other brands which I used to used. Some carbon brand can be very strong and could cause potential RTN/ STN in your SOS so I think just choosing a milder carbon should work - does not have to be KZ brand !!

LIGHTS IN ACTION

LIGHTS IN ACTION

Now that water is in, decided to share some pictures of the lights in action!!

LOVE THE COLORS from this Radium bulb…… !! Now where did I put my shades… these LB reflectors are very bright even at the bottom of my tank
:p

Hmmmm wonder what sort of par I’m getting with em lights… Anyone got a par meter I can borrow??

Burn not as blue as XM20K bulb I used before but more like a 12 to 164 look (to my eyes anyway) but will comments after the burn-in period. Anyone knows how long is the burn-in period for Radium?? I heard it would be whiter after the burn-in period with this ballast!

LightingFixture31.jpg

And this hopefully will help reduce ‘carpet surfers’ in my shallow reef and also keeps my fishes from barging into my Carpet during the night… YES, I planned to add a Gigantea again for this new tank.

Lights ON â€"œ LED moonlight:
TankDisplay04.jpg

And some different combination of Mh and T5…

2 x Radium/ 4 x Center T5 in-action:
TankDisplay01.jpg

Left Radium/ 4 x Center T5 in-action:
TankDisplay02.jpg

The 1st picture is my fav combination by far. It gives the radium a more whitish look and yet with a tint of blue to bring out the corals color!!

Will used this in combination with my Radium. So far, I’m very please with the colors and will see how the color is like once the Radium burn in a little more.

This is for my sunrise and sunset setting….

4 x Left/Right T5 in-action:
TankDisplay03.jpg

Lot’s of lights for this shallow reef so I’m not concern about not having enough par at this moment. However, for such shallow reef, I might plan a longer photoperiod for the T5 and shorter photoperiod for the MH, which should stretch my Radium lifespand to over a year, hopefully and reduce the head from MH and some saving on electricity……all good!!

And this is just for fun….

LEDMidnight01.jpg

LEDMidnight02.jpg

LEDMidnight03.jpg

LEDMidnight04.jpg

Planned to run this schedule and will adjust accordingly to the coral needs as I go along…..

LightingSchedule.png

Any comments?? Basically in summary, I’m planning to run the T5’s for 8 hours daily and the Mh for 5 hours each with an half hour over lap so Mh will run basically for 5.5 hours !!

I will not do a review on LB reflectors and Ice Cap 660 Ballast as I think there are enough reviews and info online already but for those of you who have any questions, do feel free to ask!!

Instead I will do a quick review on the Tek2 T5 reflector and Galaxy Ballast for those who are interested…

:D

Great thanks! and i will start working on a build thread in a couple days, so hopefully ill get more reviews there. :)

Looks like those T5's have some good spread being that high off of the tank. Looks really good. Even though the T5's are most likely for astetics, I wonder what kind of PAR you are hitting with just the T5's being so high though?

Looking promising ed! I may have missed it, but that rock wasnt already cured, was it? Just kind of gauging how long Im waiitng for you to fill it up with live stock lol

Looking good Ed. Those Radium20K bulbs looks great! I might have to give them a try if I ever get my tank up  .

I really like the first pic. I think you should keep that combo.

So, when are you going to start stocking this? And your really going to put a giant anenome in there...your brave

Thanks for noticing - took that on purposed :p

Well, to be honest, I think the T5 will provided quite some par and not just aesthetic as from the T5 to the bottom of the tank is only about 80cm, which is about the normal height of a 60cm tank with T5 on top :p

Don't have a par meter to measure but I could get a lux meter and covert the reading??

Mmmm...maybe I should do that :eek2:

Well the rocks are cured when I bought it but I cooked it for between 2-3 weeks - some earlier than the rest as I get them in different batches...

Thanks me too - I like the 1st picture combo the best...!! If you're planning on using Radium, just make sure you get the right ballast as some burn whiter/ bluer that others....!!

Hi arctictwist,

As for your aquascape, I think it's quite nice but can be improved....

Overall I think it's too centered but the overall shape you try to achieve it's quite good. In scaping, it's always important not to scape two equal piece as research have shown that the eyes somehow don't focus on the center!! So it's best to used the golden 5:3 ruling and determine where your focus point should be (and in your case, I think it should be the larger island and the valley in between)

Hope you don't mind that I take your picture and play with it a little as it's easier for me to explain this way......

Picture2-3.png

1st Picture:
I've label the picture with no to explain better what I mean:

1. Suggest to remove the top tier of rocks and convert this with some overhangs...
2. Add two pieces lower rocks at the bottom
3. Make some cave in this area for fishes
4. Lower and make a smaller island. With the reduce size in your island, you can then move this smaller island forward to give your tank some depth

2nd picture:
In the 2nd picture, I black out the suggested rocks to be removed and added in the additional rocks to be added.

Picture3-3.png

1. Replace with suitable rocks to make overhangs...flat pieces are good for this
2. This large cave should remain
3. The 2nd smaller cave should also remain
4. Leave this area clear for your valley look from your bed
5. Creating a second smaller island with a smaller cave for fishes but moving it slightly forward at an angel compare to the larger island.

Alternatively (if you want to redo the rock work completely) You can make the left side island (larger island) into a pillar form with PVC structure...

Another thing I would suggest is also to removed your egg crate from under the tank. I presume you will be using sand and once the sand fills in between the eggcrate, it will become a detritus trap on it's own and will cause you problems in a long term. Better to used smaller pieces of egg crate (or better still acrylic rods or simply PVC pipe with hole drill at the side) just under the rocks as stand and leave the rest bare glass....

Not sure what your purposed of the egg crate?? is it to prevent rock landslide from cracking your base?? If this is your purpose, maybe best to used a piece of starboard?? Or simply glue your rock work together so that it won't slide !!

Just my 2 cent.

Hope that helps......

The way I see it, with the 2nd picture, you will be able to get the view you wanted from your bed and also from the front view it still give it some depth because of the different size/ focus points of each island and valley.

:p

wow. ed, you are very thorough! thanks so much for the suggestions! Dont worry about the eggcrate. Thats actually there just to protect the glass while i figure out my scape. I know myself all to well, i can be a little clumsy so i figured incase i let a rock slip out of my hand, that would be good to have there. Then it will be moved to the top to keep my fish from gettin to far out of the water and hopefully i cut it close enough to keep them out of the overflows! I am def going to glue my rocks together as well. Looks like i am going to take another shot at it. It does have more depth than you can see in the pictures, but im going to try some of your suggestions and see how it looks!
