Btw, are you using dead rocks?? If yes, would be advisable to pre-soak them in RO water and exchange out the water every two days for about 4-6 weeks and test until you get zero PO4 or this will cause you major problems in the future...!!

most are dead, yea. i have some live rock from my previous tank that will be in my sump. it has been in a 10 gallon with some flow, minimal light and heat since i broke down my 30. the dead rock is about 50lbs i just got from marcorocks.

UPDATES – DAY 6 CYCLE WITH ZEOVIT

UPDATES â€"œ DAY 6 CYCLE WITH ZEOVIT

Yesterday was DAY 6 and YES â€"œ seem the cycle has kick start into the 2nd phase….

NH3 â€"œ 0.3 mg/l (Hagen Testkit)
NO2 â€"œ 1.6 mg/l (Hagen Testkit)
NO3 â€"œ 2 mg/l (Salifert Testkit)

Should be expecting the NO2 to slowly come down this two to three days and the NH3 to be non-traceable.

Just some slight diatoms on the rock work but nothing on the sand bed yet!! Maybe the massive amount of flow and oversize skimmer is making life difficult for diatoms to appear??

Will check in on the 10th day to see how the cycle goes and see if it’s ready for some cleaning crew to go in…!!

Lighting Schedule:

Meanwhile, I planned to start off the T5 on an 8 hours full illumination but the MH on a 2 hours full illumination and slowly increase the photoperiod with the following schedule and accordingly to the corals’ needs…..

Final Photoperiod:
• 4:30pm to 5:30pm â€"œ Sunrise
• 5:30pm to 11:30pm â€"œ Full illumination
• 11:30pm to 01:00am â€"œ Sun set
• 01:00am â€"œ 03:00am â€"œ Moonlight

This is the weekly planned photoperiod on how I’m going to slowly increase the lights so that my corals won’t get into a shock and get burned:

Operating Hours:
➢ Week 1: 8 hours T5/ 2 hours MH
➢ Week 2: 8 hours T5/ 2.5 hours MH
➢ Week 3: 8 hours T5/ 3 hours MH
➢ Week 4: 8 hours T5/ 3.5 hours MH
➢ Week 5: 8 hours T5/ 4.5 hours MH
➢ Week 6: 8 hours T5/ 5 hours MH
➢ Week 7: 8 hours T5/ 5.5 hours MH
➢ Week 8: 8 hours T5/ 6 hours MH

I will also overlap my 2 MH by 0.5 hour each so that I will have light over a period of 6.5 hours but with only full 6 hours full illumination of MH.

Reason for such a late sunset is so that I can still enjoy my tank a little longer when I’m off work, which is usually very late for us, hoteliers….

Hey Ed, how expensive is Zeovit to run on your tank compared to other low nutrient methods like balling or balling lite?

Equipment straight through continued media and maintenance...

Well the initial start up for zeovit can be expensive as the dosing amount is usually much larger but this will decrease over time once the system reaches the ULNS stage!!

In Zeovit system the only add equipment to get is the zeovit reactor. For Ca/dKH/Mg you can used either a Ca Rx or using Balling lite to maintain it.!!

IMO, I think tanks larger than 300-g can get expensive to dose but anything smaller is still manageable. But on the other hand, there is nothing in this hobby that is cheap???

:D

Yep not cheap but we have a passion or addiction

Passion: If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you. ~

Addiction: All sins tend to be addictive, and the terminal point of addiction is damnation

I'm going with passion at this moment..... :D

WATER RESERVOIR

WATER RESERVOIR

In my excitement I totally forgot to update on my water reservoir…

As I want to make the water volume in my reservoir much larger, I had no choice but to go taller…however in making a taller reservoir, one problem I face is the continues water flow due to gravity (as the reservoir is taller than the sump tank) even after the ATO pump is off due to there is no air to break the siphon.

With that I have a pipe design this way so that when the pump stop working, the air will enter from the top and break the siphon.

I also added another 20mm hole on my reservoir cover to hook my water hose from my RO/DI water storage container to refill the reservoir. Depending on my tank’s evaporation, I’m hoping to refill this once a week only.

My ATO pump is also hook on to a timer to be activated 6 times a day for 15min each time to avoid over flooding for whatever reason….

I know some people hook their RO/DI unit (using a float switch to control) directly to their reservoir tank but as my tank is in the middle of my hall, there is no way I can do that, unless I rip off my flooring, which unfortunately not an option for me. Also there is lot’s of hidden danger/risk by doing that as well IMO so not an area I want to venture into….

:p

You just gave me a solution for a problem I did not even know I had. Great!!

We are setting up the autofill this weekend (along with the setup to do water changes).

I have two tall 40 gallon tanks (one with RODI water and the other where we do the salt water mix). We are doing the setup in preparation for our vacation time... so everything needs to work without issues.

Where is the water reservoir located?

In the Power Center section. In that same small section, accommodate also my CO2, Ca Rx, Multi Controller, Close Loop Hammerhead pump and OM

Great to know you find it helpful...

Will write about my WC method tomorrow so stay tune, if you're interested :D
