Hey Ed, how expensive is Zeovit to run on your tank compared to other low nutrient methods like balling or balling lite?

Equipment straight through continued media and maintenance...

If I can jump in here, balling method is simply an alternative to calcium reactors similar to our 2 part system but with magnesium aminos and trace elements mixed in.

ULNS like zeovit and fauna marin utilize carbon dosing and bacterial supplimentation.

ULNS like ZEOvit are totally compatible with balling systems and their integration can be taken a step farther by using a large 4-6 pump dosing controller to dose both the balling solutions and the zeovit products.

Thanks Nick - forgot to explain to him on the 'Balling' part !!

O/t - did you see the new automatic Zeo reactor from ATB yet?? Heard Anton is sending the sample to victor for testing this week but it's only good for 1.5L?? :eek1:

WATER STORAGE & WATER CHANGE

WATER STORAGE & WATER CHANGE

So just to keep this thread exciting, while you guys wait for the tank to complete it’s cycle, I thought I would share my water storage/ salt mix for those who is interested :p

Without the benefit of a fish room as support for large tank, one has to be a little more creative when it comes to weekly WC.

It has to be easy and no messy water all over the wooden flooring and yet takes up as little space as possible.

With that, I would like to share my 3-STEP SW mixing method and my 6-STEP WC method for those facing the same challenges as me.

Below is a complete diagram of the RO/DI water reservoir (top) and the SW mixing chamber (bottom)

WaterStorageDiagram.png

WCContainer02.jpg

WaterContainerPumpHookup.jpg

My My 3-STEP SW mixing method for those who are interested:

Step 1
• Open the TUBV of the RO/DI water reservoir (top) and let gravity do it’s work

Note: remember to keep an eye here as I can’t remember how many times I forgot to close back the TUBV once the SW storage container is full… good thing it flood my bathroom only and not into my hallway.

WCContainer03.jpg

Step 2
• Close the TUBV once the water level reaches it’s desired level.

Note: Once RO/DI water reservoir is half empty, my float will activated my RO/DI unit and will continue to automatic fill until water reservoir is full again. This usually take 1 â€"œ 2 days so no need to keep an eye as it will automatically stop once the pre-set level is reach

Step 3
• Open up the cover of your SW mixing chamber (bottom) and pour in your Salt mix of choice. During this process, try to pour it in as slowly as you can.

Note: after a couple of practices, you will know precisely how many cup/scoop of Salt mix is required for each WC.

And Salt mix is ready for the next WC……….

For info, inside my SW container is 2 mixing pumps, each rated at 3000l/h, which is left on 24 hours to ensure the salt are properly mix. There are some people saying that it’s also good to mix in a bottle of sparkling mineral water to avoid the minerals to settle at the bottom of the container but I’ve yet to see how that works so yet to try!!

What I need to add on is a 200w heater during the winter, as the water in the storage can get quite cold during that time

And now for my 6-STEP WC method for those who is interested:

Step 1
• Switch off return pump and ATO device
• Switch off skimmer pumps

Note: other equipments are optional to off/on but I usually only off the above during WC

Step 2
• Connect rubber hose to WC pump outlet and place the other end of the hose to your drainage area
• Switch on the WC pump and simply let the pump drain out to the amount of SW you want, as each person WC requirement is different. For me is 10% weekly WC

WaterChange01.jpg

WaterChange02.jpg

Note: By the way, the WC pump is usually left ON in the sump with the white flexi hose for me to flush all the debris in the sump tank

Step 3
• OFF the WC pump and disconnect the rubber hose.
• Lift up the rubber hose to drain what’s left of the dirty water remaining in the hose to your drainage area.

Note: if you don’t remove the remaining dirty water from your rubber hose, it will ended back in your tank when you pump in the clean SW

Step 4
• Once the dirty SW is removed from the rubber hose, hook the rubber hose to the SW mixing chamber WC output pump whiles at the same time place the other end of the hose to your sump tank â€"œ make sure it’s well secure!
• Open TUBV and at the same time switch on the WC output pump so that it will pump out the clean SW faster into your sump tank

WaterChange03.jpg

WaterChange04.jpg

Step 5
• Once the water level reaches your desire level, switch off the WC output pump and close the TUBV

Step 6
• Switch back on all equipments

Water change is now completed and not a single water spill!

This weekly task usually takes me about 10min at most, as my SW is usually ready mix two days before.

Note:
For those with a fish room support, of course you can make it even easier by installing your piping ready (In/Out) and it’s all a matter of flicking a switch to remove dirty SW and another switch for replacing the removed SW.

I really enjoyed your thread. It is a beautiful tank and a great inspiration. I am just starting a 60"x30"x18" external overflow. I hope mine can be as beautiful us your.

Thanks reefgeek - don't worry, your tank will look just as good, or even better as you keep hanging out in RC as there is just too many beautiful tanks around to copy and planned.

The secret to a successful tank is the planning stage so take your time and plan out every details as much as possible and ask as much questions as much as possible!!

Good luck and don't forget to start a build thread.

Great measurements by the way...!!

I can't wait to see it. Combine that with a dozing pump and zeo becomes a once a month chore as apposed to a daily one.

Me too - got some pictures of it but can't for the sake of me figure out how it works??

Can be hung on as well..... :)

Can't wait for them to test it out and then start rolling out larger models :D

Looking good Ed, I can't wait till you get fish and corals in the amazing tank.

Thanks HomeSlizzice - tomorrow is the 10 DAY of Zeovit so hopefully I can start off with some cleaning crew and some hardy corals. :D

Will test the water tomorrow first and see how it goes.... :p

Wow, everything is looking great. Congrats! I just read the whole thread and all i can say is... :eek2:

Thanks Kellsindell and WELCOME to my build thread

Love the waterchange setup Ed.

On another note, have you made any decisions on the canopy? Just leaving it as is for now, or just haven't gotten to it yet?

I will eventually get to working on the floating canopy top but just somehow not my priorities yet :p

Also got my top island/ mountain to work on and a couple of other 'stuff' (apart from my day job of course) so need to squeeze in some more time out of that 24 hours a day....
