Hope you get the Stream situation sorted out, perhaps there was some sort of algal build up inside. There was an article by Marc (Melev) on how to clean them, I'll try dig it up for you.

Did you soak your parts/pump in vinegar maybe it's calcium build up? Try swapping impellers with your other pump.

Yes CHASDB - I did the soak thing and manage to get it running again but the driver refuse to stay in place and keep jumping up/down??

Originally posted by CHASDB I have been very frustrated with Saliferts dKH kit too. So I been using LaMotte and just tried Elos, wow I like it alot, easy to see color change from blue to yellow. [/B]

True on the Salifert testkits. I love the Elos testkit as it's so much easier for an idiot like myself to see the color change :D

Originally posted by CHASDB Definitely good news being ich free. Thanks for posting your fight with ich, that will definitely help my build. I will catch groups of fish in my old system QT, treat and release in the new tank. This will help the more docile fish get established and build up my biological filtration. [/B]

Thanks - it was a moment I hope to forget :D

My Tunzes need a 24-48 hour soak completely dismanteled every six months.

Thanks Bax - it's now back in vinegar water since last night so will give it a try again tonight :p

I just had a problem with my 6101 as well, a soak and a replaced impeller fixed the problem.

Congrats on beating the ich, seems like your in the clear... (hope I didn't just jinx you)

Thanks thirschmann "knock on wood"

Good timing too.... :D Not sure if I was lucky or unlucky?? :D

Thanks Kar93 for the link - yeah, I did dismantle the parts accordingly and as far as I can see there is no blockage... it works but the driver just refuse to spin in it's place but keep jumping up/down

3rd ZEOLITE EXCHANGE

3rd ZEOLITE EXCHANGE

Been soaking my Zeolites the last 3 days in RO water with daily WC in preparation for my 3rd exchange of Zeolite.

Last night….as usual, I exchange out 90% old with new Zeolite. My next exchange will be in 6 weeks time!!

No change in my dosing schedule :p

STREAM 6201 Updates….

STREAM 6201 Updates….

Guys, after soaking overnight on a Vinegar bath and a good clean and scrub, the driver still jerky and refuse to spin in place ☹ Roger in Tunze have not responded yet so I’m not sure if it’s a motor issue and if I should send it in??

I even try to used the driver from my other Stream and same result.

However, I remove the bush bearing, (plastic collar that goes around the hole) and the driver seems to work well again!!

Problem is the bush bearing must have a purpose and not sure if it’s save to run it without the bush bearing…anyone got any experience in this??

VORTECH INSTALLED….

VORTECH INSTALLED….

Vortech02-1.jpg

Vortech01-1.jpg

OK, make time to hook up both my Vortech today since one of my Stream stopped working. Position both at the end of my tank temporary to see how it does, as I wanted more random flows from this end….

Might move them around at a later stage :lol2:

Now for some Vortech review….

Setting up:
Quite easy to set-up the master/ slave controller, even for an idiot like myself :spin2: Color coded instructions was quite detail and easy to follow

VortechController01.jpg

VortechController02.jpg

Only wish the wires for the controller is much longer so that I can put it together with the rest of my controllers - now it’s sitting on top of my Canopy :hmm4:Also the cables outside the tank is not the most sightly thing… will be better if it was an in-wall set-up where you have it all hidden or in the future it becomes wireless all together :lmao:

Size and Flow:
Notice how small they are in the tank?? So far the flow is very wide but shorter compare to let’s say Stream 6101, which produce the same amount of flow (maybe 5’flow compare to Stream 7’ flow) but obviously non-directional flow.

However it suit me as I have another 2 Stream 6201 and a Wavebox set-up on the opposite of the tank so should cover all ‘dead-spots’, if any.

Will have to play with the controller more to see which setting I like!! Currently I’m using Reef-Crest Random Mode with the salve pump set for anti-sync

Vortech03-1.jpg

See how small and pretty they look in the tank??

Temporary I won’t be using the black foam guard that comes along with it, as I’m too lazy to take it out to wash every few days so hopefully my fishes are smart enough not to go too near the pump :fish1:

Feed Mode:
‘Feed Mode’ is cool as you can see the pumps blades slow down for around 10 minutes. You just have to press the ‘feed-mode’ in any of the controller and both pump’s feed-mode will be activated.

This is similar to Tunze’s feed mode

Night Mode:
Have not set this up yet. You have set the ‘Night mode’ when you want it to activated.

This is different from Tunze where a sensor is used to activate Night mode when the lights are out!!

In this aspect, I think Tunze is much better!!

Heat Issue:
No heat in the wet side or water as the motor is on the outside but the motor on the outside is HOT. One thing I notice is the pump assign as ‘Master’ is much hotter then the pump assign as ‘Slave’ â€"œ is this normal guys??

Warning:
for those with little children around, you have to be careful not to let them near it!!

Noise Issue:
As for the noise issues, there is a very slight motor spinning sound, if you place your ears next to it but I don’t think it will be an issue for me as my wave hitting my eurobracing and my gentle humming of my Hammerhead down plays any noise from the Vortech. Can’t compare to the Gen 1 Vortech as I’ve not used them but overall the noise level is acceptable to me and not loud like some people are saying!

But on ‘noise’ Tunze wins hands-down as both my Stream 6201 are dead silence that you don’t even know they are running

Which is why one of my Stream stop running and I didn’t even notice :mad2:

Vibration:
Another common complains I hear about the Gen 1 is the vibration but the new one so far seem fine, even when I switch them full blast. I tried it in all setting and no issues there.

Initially when I place the wet side onto the tank, it was spinning around slightly but once you manually slowly spin it around until the magnet find that ‘sweet spot’, the spinning stop!!

Maintenance:
This is a breeze compare to my Tunze as I simply take out the wet side and rinse it through running water under a tap :fun4: and stick it back in the water again.

I think I’m going to do this monthly!!

Mmmm…. reminds me I have not clean my Streams and Wavebox since I installed it in May :o

Total Flow:
My fishes and corals love the add flows…at this moment with 2 x Stream 6201, 2 x Vortech mp40, 1 x Tunze Wavebox and my Hammerhead return, I estimate around 60x turnover on average!! :bounce2:

In the future, I’m also planning to get two of the new 6105 Stream when it comes out year-end as to give me a better directional flow :love2: (or two more Vortech)

This will surely add on to the turnover count, especially when those corals grow up!!

Hi Ed.

I've been following you thread for a while now. I'm in the process of designing a tank of similar dimensions. Your thread inspired me to incorparate the external wave box as well - what a slick idea.

Anyways, the question I have for you is this: I am going to have the top eurobracing as you do, with 1" holes in the far corners opposite the overflow. I plan on having two returns coming down through the eurobracing hooked up to flow accelerators, identical to your set-up. What is the pvc fitting you are using to bridge the 1" hole in your eurobracing? It looks sort of like a bulkhead. It seems like the key is to have a good seal here so that the wave from the wavebox does not cause splash or saltcreep in the upper corners.

Thanks in advance.

Brad

you actually only have to clean the VT when its really dirty or encrusted, they have such an open design they only clog if your have real algae problems

TRY the wave mode dude you will be amazed how much water they can move in pulse mode

Their colors seem to have improved in the new tank, especially my Maxima. Love them vibrant colors… :inlove: must find more clams for my tank

And of course my Pallet tank which never fail to ‘pose’ for me each time the camera is out :lmao:

Hi Brad - yeah, I used a bulkhead as this is to prevent the splash from the wavebox. I do get some saltcreep along the eurobracing but that's easy to clean!!

Also depending how long your tank is, you might want to pre-drilled some more holes along your eurobracing for future, especially if you intend to keep those crazy lovin' flow SPS :D I make a cover for each of those pre-drilled holes to prevent splashing and can be easily remove when I need to used those holes

Hope I make sense here :)
