If I go with 400w Reerfux 12K, do you think I need to supplement actinics?? If not, then I will used the actinics for the dawn and sunset set-up only but off while the MH is all fired up!!

Also what Ballast is best for this Reeflux?? Coralvue?

This piece took a long time to color-up but finally how it’s starting to take off…you can see the center bump is starting to develop some red ever since I change it’s position

Also keeping a very close watch on my dKH and Ca consumption as once these corals start growing, it will suck my Ca like ‘baby to milk’ as I have reduce my Ca Rx output and still trying to tune in my Ca Rx

And more…..

OK, that’s all for now. FTS this weekend â€"œ P R O M I S E

I also promised a FTS of my tank this week ;)

Very nice colonies Ed. I also like the non-standard placement of the colonies (on the side of pilars etc). Very nice!

Thanks Leonardo - coming from you means a lot. I like to make the reef looks more natural rather than those 'fruit-stand' type set-up!!

I love your lighting set-up and only wish I can do something like that! :rolleye1: a little more challenging for my 2m tank!

Thank you Ed. It is possible, you only have to use thicker aluminium profiles and more then two cables to support it.
If the top of the tank is closed (canopy or build in tank), you can construct everything to a PVC plate.

Leonardo

Thanks Leo.... mmmm I really have to think hard this few days to decided what I want to do. If I were to go MH, do you think I can get away with using 250w Reeflux 12k instead of 400w if I used a better reflector like Lumen Bright or Lumenarc 3??

Your tank is 200x80x70 cm right?

I think with a high PAR 250 Watt DE bulb in large Lumenbrights it is possible.
Go for bulbs like Aqua Connect or Reeflux. Giesemann Coral is also a very good bulb.

If you combine that with two 2x80 watt or two 4x80 watt T5 pendants you have the best of both worlds. Maybe on the sides some shorter T5 pendants front to back.

Nothing can beat MH+T5 combination IMO.

Coralvue will tell you that you need their ballast for the Coralvue ReefLux bulbs. I'm using IceCap e-ballasts, and after a few months the 10,000K bulb starts to look a little pink to me. Maybe they are right, but until I own one, I won't know.

I know quite a few people that use 12,000K bulbs plus a bunch of actinic VHOs, so if you are a fan of blue lighting, that is what you may end up doing.

Thanks Leo - that's what I'm thinking to do if I go this direction a combi of 3 x 250w MH with 8 x 38W T5 as this will cover the entire length of my tank.

Anyway, I have e-mail a distributor in the US and he is checking for me to see if he has stock ATI or the Lumenbrights reflector and I guess next week I ahve to start considering my options :p

That's my worry as the US distributor I'm in contact with does not carry Coralvue ballast in 400w and that's why I'm seeking options if 250w will be sufficient using LB reflector :rolleye1:

VHO combi instead of T5 will be an options - how do you like yours Marc?? Maybe a combi of 3 x 250w Mh, 2 x 80cm VHO actinic, and 4 x 39w T5 for add colors??

I'm pleased with my lighting set up, which is 2x250w 10,000K bulbs, 1x400w 20,000K bulb, and 2x160w Super Actinic VHOs.

However, my tank tend to be more whilte/pink, rather than the deeper blue you see over many tanks.

Hmmmm decision....decision...decision....

Have you heard anyone out there with experience of using Galaxy ballast with reeflux bulbs??

WATER PARAMETER UPDATES….

WATER PARAMETER UPDATES….

Did a 10% WC and this week’s water parameters updates:

➢ Temperature â€"œ 24.7 degree C (light on)
➢ Salinity â€"œ 1.026
➢ Ph â€"œ 8.25 (Light on)
➢ NO3 â€"œ 0.5 (Salifert â€"œ drop from last week 2)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.00 (Salifert â€"œ no trace)
➢ PO4 â€"œ 0.03 (D&D PO4 â€"œ drop from last week 0.045)
➢ dKH â€"œ 6 (API test kit â€"œ drop from last week 7.5)
➢ dKH â€"œ 6.5 (Elos test kit â€"œ drop from last week 8.5)
➢ Ca â€"œ 410 (Salifert test kit â€"œ drop from last week 430)
➢ Ca â€"œ 400 (Elos test kit â€"œ drop down last week 420)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1500 (Salifert test kit - same as last week)
➢ Mg â€"œ 1500 (Elos test kit â€"œ same as last week)
➢ Potassium â€"œ380 (stable)

My dKH took a drop. Look like I need to increase my CO2 bubble count a little. Apart from that looks good as my PO4 and NO3 is coming down slowly but at least it’s heading for the right direction.

I’m out of my Salifert Po4 test kit so next week onwards will only be using my D&D
