No problem - anyway since I do have experience using it, do let me know if you do have any questions??

Also if you do a search here in RC in the Lighting Forum, there is quite a few threads about LED lighting so the good news is YES, THERE ARE CHOICES NOW APART FROM SOLARIS should you decided to go LED

I tryied to search yesterday but the search function was down, that's why i asked in your theat.

I'll search the Lighting Forum.

HAPPY READING :D

Ed,
Your Regal is from the Red Sea/Indian Ocean area as it is yellow chested. Typically, these tend to acclimate to captivity easier, most likely due to better collection practices.

I had a Red Sea Regal for a year before I lost to an accident. It ate mysis, meaty foods, and blanched broccoli like a champ. I now have an Indo Pacific Regal which I've had almost a year. She has a blue/gray chest, and eats shrimp, scallop, mysis/meaty foods, and flake, but wont touch broccoli.....

IME, these fish do better with "dither" fish that are active eaters, but not aggressive. This encourages the Regal to eat things it may not recognize as food, without having to fight for it.

Nick

Thanks Nick - so that's how you tell them apart?? from the chested?? Interesting!! Hopefully he will do fine in my tank as most of my fishes are aggressive eaters.

Observed this two days that he tries to grab for food but he could never reach it as the Trigger, tangs, butterflies and others are always there first so he waits at the bottom for what's left over, which is usually nothing

Thanks - regal still a little shy. Not sure if mine is from the Red Sea?? Anyone knows how to tell the difference?

The best way to narrow it down is the color of the belly. Red sea regals have a bright yellow belly; but that is not the only factor ;)

Ed, you wrote the yellow-spotted is a deep water specie, is it shy or less active when the lights are on? is it a nocturnal fish?
Keep the good job!

Yes, it's deep water from Japan - around 100m I think. They can get up to 6" and have a huge mouth too...!!

When the lights are on, they are pretty shy, hanging in shades and holes most of the day but at night they become more active. Mine anyway.... :p

Ed, sorry for the late reply, i have been busy these couple of days

Wow, you are the only person i know having such butterflies and angels in a reef tank! good job and keep us update :) I also have a regal angel in my tank and he have been a very good citizen up to now, not touching any kind of corals, wish you the same!

concerning the blotchy Anthias, they are very easy to keep, mine have growth quite a lot since i got them, eating every kind of food: pellet, frozen and flakes. They are a bit agressive once introduced fishes in the tank, thinking it is food but once the fishes are in for less than 5 minutes, they will stop harassing them.

Let me know if you are having some other questions :)

Thanks Richard - great info. I was worried that the blotchy anthias will have problems acclimatizing into our tank. SO far she is eating but still hiding between caves and overhangs when the lights are on.

Guess she will have to get used to the new environment before she start swimming around more. :)

My Regal still a little shy and not eating yet but she is swimming out more now and checking out every corner of the tank.

Dont worry, she will eventually be out in the open swimming around. Mine are always out in the open. My friend of mine also have a pair and they are also doing very well! I have no doubt that yours will be as fine!

You can also give your regal angel some oysters, they seem to like it very much! Just make sure not to overfeed as phosphate will spike up.

My home-made food has Oysters in there. Problem is I think he is a little intimidated by the others greedy guys so he will have to puck up his courage and go for it rather than waiting for what's leftover, which is usually nothing :(

SOME SHIPMENT OF STAG AND SPS ARRIVED

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of ya… and for my Thanksgiving, I didn’t get any turkey but got these instead…..

StagGreenwithBlueTip01.jpg

Came in some cultured SPS this morning and I simply couldn’t resist as I was just dying to add more stag collections for my rockwork.

Could this be a Acropora loisetteae??

And this….

TopDown11.jpg

Not sure what type Stag is this?? Look like a Formosa but the tip is blunt, unlike Formosa

And some Monties…

MontieUnknown02.jpg

I think it’s a Montipora cactus but not sure?

And this piece of encrusting Montie…. Any idea on ID??

Sorry can’t take a close-up as I borrow my Macro lenses to the hotel for some food shots…..

After these few months of wild spending, I’m going on a diet of bread and peanut butter for the next couple of months :( (or planned more ‘food tasting’ in the hotel hahahaha)

Going to lay low for a while…….

MONEY IS THE ROOT TO ALL EVIL
AND AT THIS MOMENT I GOT NO MONEY,
SO CAN’T DO ANY EVIL!!

Ed, your tank is looking BEAUTIFUL...
I think I see a problem...

WE HAVEN'T HAD A FTS in quite some time!!!!
