Ed Reef's '295-gallon Peninsular ZEOVit SPS tank'

I started out running an MP-40 & a 6060 in my 75 g. currently have an MP40 with 2 x 6100 s in my 120 and I can't run the MP over about 55-60% or I get water over the top!

So the 120 will get an MP-20 and the the MP40 will go to the 200 with a couple of these Gen 2 Tunzes.

I think a lot of people want to go one way or the other between the Tunzes and the MPs. But, if you do that, you miss out on the excellent combined water motion these two completely different pumps can provide.

That's true - that's why I still think both pumps are equal, depending what you want to achieve with those pumps....

And for large tanks like ours, a mixtures of those pumps is the best combo.... :lol:

Ed, I'll be interested in the reliability of these new Tunze pumps ... my experience with my 'old' TS48 kit, 7095 Controller, Tunze Wavebox, those butt-ugly fancy mounting magnets, and corrosion of plastic components over the past 3-years has been anything but happy. I have spent almost as much money in a year out of warranty replacing failed parts than what the kits cost.

My MP40 on the other hand has been a comparative angel in performance and durability.

well....as you know I did have problems with both the 6201, wavebox and MP40w - maybe I'm jinx on pumps :lol:

Nice, thanks for the review.

I bought a non-variable stream 2 when they first came out. It has worked well except for 2 complaints;
1) The pump does not stay in the holder consistently and adjusts over time.
2) Today it jammed up for the first time but honestly it just needs to be cleaned.

Other then that is was been very reliable and I really like the maneuverability of the mount.


And don't worry your not jinxed. I've had problems with both of my MP40w, a 6101, and I have a wavebox sitting in my garage that I gave up on.

SHUTTING TANK DOWN

Guys, I’m going to shut down this tank soon as someone make me a very attractive offer to sell the tank, incl live stock and I simply couldn’t refuse.


Anyway, the good news is I get to keep all the equipments, as the new owner would like all brand new spanking shinning equipments. The only catch is I have to set it up for him so that’s going to be a real pain for me


I’ve been going forwards/ backward on this decision this last couple of weeks now and have finally decided it’s the best thing to do and take a break for a few months off this hobby and focus on other priorities in life.


Trust me; it was not an easy decision for me to make, after spending so much time and effort on this tank but a decision had to be made.


The guy I’m selling the tank to is a newbie in this hobby but has shown a very keen interest. I will set it up for him so that’s it’s ‘plug and play’ â€"œ is there ever such thing in this hobby :lol:


Thank you all for all the great advice you’ve been giving me and all the patience in following my thread this whole year.


One thing for sure is I’m not giving up this wonderful hobby as I love it too much and I will be back sooner rather than later, (maybe with a nano, who knows…) once I sorted out some stuff so watch out for my new thread then…..

if you're serious, man, I hope you got your money worth! I can't imagine somebody making me an offer on my system.... I'm embarassed to even tell people what I've spent in equipment and livestock!

how can you be contemplating a nano

Ed, this is one of those things in life that you regret as soon as you've done it. If the deal isn't complete yet, sit yourself down in a quiet corner with a bottle of Scotch - or whatever your poison is - and mull it over a while. Maybe you'll see it differently tomorrow - at least - we here at RC can hope so.

All I can say is...

Reefkeeping is like substance abuse... sometimes you need to visit an AA meeting or two to bring you to your senses, but in the end the thirst will bring you back for more. I have a feeling Ed Reef will be back again.

Thanks Ryan - yeah the deal was sweet as it covers my initial set-up costs + I get to keep ALL my equipments.... but he get the livestocks and I got to set it up for him

Na....did that 'poison' thing a month ago and due to certain priorities I urgently need to take care of, I need to quit for the time being as it takes up a lot of my time.

But for sure, I will be back...!!
