Emster's no powerheads allowed reef

The tank looks great. I used a couple of sea swirls on my 210 and loved them too. I've heard of people having trouble with them but I ran mine for 3 yrs. (with no problems) before I took the tank down. Good job.

For those that haven't met Emmett before, he is a meticulous reefer and is an online coral retailer with high quality corals at a great price. I don't think I'm allowed to post a link to his website but I think I can give my opinion here right? Just wanted to mention it - his TOTM1 and upcoming TOTM2 are no coincidence!

I just love them, IMO you really can't get the random flow from powerheads like these sea swirls give. You just have to be careful not to bump them when you have your arm in the tank.

They are coming out with new 3/4" sea swirls soon that have no o-rings so you can run more pressure. They already have the new 1" versions out. I pretty much have these maxed out and when I get the new one's I can really crank up the flow.

Thanks for the kind words Chris but can't get another TOTM because I have a business license now. I actually have a real job and just do this on the side, I never really wanted to sell frags it's just something that happened. With that being said I really don't need anymore business because I enjoy my free time too much:bounce3: BTW I have not updated or even looked at my website in the past 9 months:sad2:

Emmett , Your new tank is awesome , even better than the last one . I didn't think that would be possible , but you did it . Your new tank is really beautiful .

Wow thats quite a compliment! I still miss my old tank, but glad I don't have an empty living room anymore. So glad I have this one up now so I have something to stare at, it was a long year

I'm blown away with those colors. I've only seen one other setup that comes close to your's and I know what he does. I've had success with sps, but can't come close to what you have going.

Can I pick your brain with a ton of questions?

Dosing program if any?

Lighting duration on the MH?

Water change frequency and percentage?

Salt mix?

Refugium with Macro Algae?

Fish count and size?

Fish feeding schedule

Coral feeding schedule (and what do you feed?)

Calcium Reactor?

Temp?

PH?

Alk?

Calcium?

Salinity?

Magnesium?

I won't ask about phosphates and nitrates 'cause they have to be 0.

If you had to pin it down to one thing, what would you say is your secret to success?

Awesome!

Joke....well no, okay well maybe. I'm going to try my best, got the sea swirls kicking with the penductors. Love these sea swirls the two in the middle are six years old 24/7. So far so good on the flow but I'm sure when the corals get bigger I'm going to have to do something. This tank is about 6 months old and doing well. I will be posting lot's more pics soon  if you have any questions please feel free

Thank you very much Tomtoro! I run this tank the same as this one http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2009-01/totm/index.php I'm not running carbon yet or phosban. The 3 400watt radiums are on for 5.5 hours and before that the t-5's are on for 3 hours.
