Bronco thanks and I love your johnsoni...I would love a pair of them or the jordani's sometime.
I have caught the exquisite and put him back in the quarantine tank for a while to give the Scott's time to come out and feel comfortable. Do you think I should try putting these two back together? they're probably too close in color, shape and size ?

Neptune- how long have you had your blue spotted jawfish? and what temperature is your tank at?

How long did it take for your fish to get used to the lid of eggcrate? I put mine on the see and the fish hid for a day and a half. Would like to avoid buiding the wall, but do notice a drop off on the light as well. Thanks.

The first jonsoni seems a female that would change into a male, and the second one is a fully-colored male; both are so great.

The exquisitus is also a great and colorful version fom Vanuatu; the yellow dorsal fin makes it so nice.

In a earlier post I remember you mentioning that your Scott's is bigger than the Exquisite by 20%. Now that you have the Exquisite out, give the Scott's some time to asert himself in the tank.....unpack if you will. Once he is comfortable and has set up a general territory you can try adding the Exquisite back. The only thing I would suggest is that you bring him back in with a specimen cup......the type that has holes to allow the system water to slip in, like a breeder cup. Place the Exquisite in the cup and then place the cup in the tank. Leave the Exquisite in that cup for 3 to 5 days and monitor the behavior of both the Exquisite & Scott's when the Scott's gets near the cup. Body language will tell you everything you need to know.

I think the fact that the Exquisite was displaced from his territory and the fact the Scott's is bigger and now established should help them get along. They don't have to love each other, just tolerate each other.

I've kept both a Scott's and the Indian Ocean Exquisite I pictured earlier together for many years. The Exquisite was a hot head, (no pund intended ) but he learned to accept the Scott's. However in the future if you plan to purchase fairies that are similar in body color make sure the body size differential is as large as possible. This makes the transition easier.

Yes, that Johnsoni has done a complete transformation. He is now the dominant johnsoni of the two I purchased. The male that came in with this one has become sexually dormant . He is a ligther shade of yellow orange and doesn't display like this one. Body size he's nearly as large as the one I just pictured, but he is totally in a submisive role now to this new dominant male.

I'm working on sending you a series of new pictures where I'm striving to achieve extreme closeups of the fish. Similar to what you see in these new Exquisite pics. Also doing some homework on cameras as I'd like to get a new unit that will allow me to get the type of special shots I want.

Lynn53: My blue spot is about 3 days old in the tank. I directed him into a hole. Food has been scarce by the hole and i haven't seen him eat yet. He moved this moring into a corner. I'm sure he's hungry and will set up a shop soon. It took my yellow head a couple of days to find a home and get acclimated. I have chiller it's set at firm 78 degrees.

Bronco7777: I really appreciate your gallery. It has helped me decide on what fairy's to search for. I had a question regarding a specimen cup with a lid. I have one but it's only 5"x 3"x 5". I would like something bigger. Where can i find one. Thanks.

I'm not useing eggcrate for my top. It is a real tough plastic threadtype material called garden cloth. I built a screen frame the size of the top of my tank and used this gardn cloth as the screen material. It works great and is very clean looking and also lets all the light in. It didn't bother my fish a bit. Very easy to build. I got the idea from Gary Majchrzak, when I saw that he had built one for his tank for the same purpose. The material is weather resistant, so m/h dont have any effect on it. And was very inexpensive to assemble. It's already kept my laboutie in once and my bluespot jawfish twice.

Thanks for the info on garden cloth. I did a search and could not find anything. Where I can get more info? Is it a solid sheet. I need ventilation as my original glass lid trapped the heat and the tank temp shot through the roof. If garden cloth is solid I am afraid of the heat rising, unless it is porous enough to let the heat out. I am running a small fan in my tank room (build under the staircase in the basement) and that has helped me keep temp in range.

Those things are hard to find. Don't know why. You'd think it's one of the simplest things to make. This is the one I use and it's not that much different than what you are describing. With a lid, this is the largest I've found. I use this strictly for moving fish and or picture taking

When it comes time to get the wrasse into the tank to develop slow acceptance with other fairies.....this is what I use:

You can buy these at any petsmart or petco. The largest one they have is 4 x 7".

However, if anyone out there knows of a supplier that provides large cups or boxes....please let us know. Reminder, need to have lids as these fish are olympic jumpers!

very nice lynn..those are some real nice looking wrasse...well here is my new scotts...he is very active and still trying to feel out the tank..but i think he will be a good fish for the tank...not sure which area he is from...this pic is not the best in the world but i does the job...try to get a better one of him displaying.
