Well, I got him.
Here's some pics of that Scott's Wrasse... I'm using Bronco's Wrasse acclimation technique.

what type of Scott's Wrasse is that? is it the rarer type?

I hope you're getting that larger tank soon! Otherwise that be 11 wrasses in one tank if you get the 3 you're looking for!! Anyways, should be going to deepreef tommrow, hopefully, can't wait!

I was checking marinecenter but those prices are crazy especially when you add shipping. I am looking at a couple of things at liveaquaria.com and Justrarefish.com. I heard some really negative things about justrarefish but I am willing to give them a try especially the specimens they can get you and the prices they offer.

LOL just tell your bride to be they are $20.00 My G/F and parents keep saying how much I blew on my wrasses I tell them about $20.00 and they buy it. Which wrasses did ya get? Which skimmer did you end up going with on your 180? I am still on the hunt for the following wrasses:

Lineatus
Rhomboid
Pylei

If I remember right, you have your collection of wrasses is a few tanks. right???

Yea, I've been looking at those same beauties for my tank. although, I might have to wait until I set up the larger tank. A dozen wrasses is alot for a 180gl! :D

Yea, I remember when I was at your place and you whispered the prices. I've been telling my bride that it's just $10 here and $10 there, so she doesn't pin me down.

I don't think she'll be questioning me too much for awhile, as we just got her a new Eclipse GT today to replace her five year old SUV. That's how she handles her mid-life crisis!

i think I'll stop by DeepReef to see their livestock too. I always love to see their selection.

The tank has been ordered will be here soon. Might have to get a bigger deltec skimmer though, not sure if my hangon is going to handle the heavy bioload of the fairy wrasses in the bigger tank.

I wouldn't think that it could.
Definitely move up to a larger $kimmer.

Deltec,

I have been working with Hiroyuki Tanaka, a fairy wrasses expert in Japan that also works with Richard Pyle, Jack Randall, and Scott Michael.
Hiroyuki regulary visits this thread and he saw your picture of the lanceolatus. Here's the reply he sent me on email regarding your lanceolatus.

"I remember that somebody got this species (on Central Reef Com) and he stated that he has obtained "lanceolatus", but it is undoutedly roseafascia. Many persons are greatly confused with the two. "

Don't mean to bum you out on that, cause actually you have a fish as rare or much rarer on your hands than the lanceolatus. C.Roseafacia has only been classified recently. As a matter of fact you can see the day the first one of these was collected by getting the DVD video "MacGillivary Freeman's Coral Reef Adventure." This is an IMAX video released as a DVD that chronicals the research done to determine why the coral reefs of the world are dying. Towards the middle of this video Richard Pyle appears to do some very deep water dives. On those dives he hand collects (net) a fairy wrasse. This was a large roseafacia never collected before. That is what you have.
As you'll see on the pictures listed below that was sent to me by Tanaka the Roseafacia has a diamond shaped tail that tends to extend a bit like a lanceolatus. But the picture also does a good job of differentiating the colors schemes of both fish.

Congratulations on the strange find. Not easy to get in the US yet. Asia is starting to get them more readily. I'm working with Hiroyuki to find one myself. Has your local fish store brought some more in?

The Scott's fairy up above is a Holme's Reef Austrailian variant. I have had those before. The ones that come from the Cook Islands are the ones that display the pink magenta circle in the center of their body.

Here's a picture of my Holmes Reef Supermale

Oh ok. Are Lineatus generally less colorful as juvis?

I think it was a girl they have a deepreef. They had a bigger one last time I was there but it had a torn flipper and wanted $280.00!! for it.

not a fairy..but..

not a fairy..but..

I know this isnt a fairy wrasse, but the severnsi is just such a beautiful fish, I found one and had to give it a try....

in the tank, hard to get a still pic... you can see my solarensis flying by...
86422severnsi3.jpg

He is swimming around, not getting beat up...not eating that much yet, but is picking at the live rock a lot...there isnt much info on him out there, anyone here have good info on him? I know they are difficult to take care of...but I heard some good results from certain people as well, so thought I would give it a try...

ghever,

Use mysis shrimp to get him to eat. Once they start eating they are pretty hardy. Get him a mate if possible in order to retain the fantastic coloration he has. Without a mate he will fade a bit. Not extremely but not as pretty as he is now. He needs sand to bury himself in. Other than that he'll be a model citizen in your reef.

Female Lineatus are less colorful then right? I wonder what they'd want for the dull colored juvi they have there now!

How do you distinquish b/t male and female in the severnsis? A lfs had gotten 3 in a couple days ago but sold real quick.
