False rose anemone?

I found this anemone a few months ago, and was told it was a false rose anemone...I asked what the heck that meant, and I don't think the person selling really knew what that meant, other then it wasn't a true rose.

After a bit of research I think I finally have it down, can someone back me up, or correct me if I am wrong? I bought it because I really like the color of it.

But in my recent findings, I believe this is just a long tentacle anemone, closely related to the sebae, which would explain the bright orange dots on the tips. From what I have read, it seems this is not a uncommon coloration, but not always easy to find either.

I was told at the store I bought this from, that these are from a local guy, and that they split very easily...of course I have had him a few months and he has not split once.....

Sorry if the pictures are a bit fuzzy, my camera isn't great.

heh. also got a shot of my rock anemone in there, my "false rose" moved to that spot and made my rock anemone take a hike, he hasn't gotten too far though.

I don't think he is, he rarely bubbles any of his tips, and when he does it isn't the same coloration change as any BTA I have seen. BTA's usually don't have just a dot and the tip that is a color change, but usually have a colored tip that gradually fades to the color of the disc.

As I said I could be wrong, but other then largely inflated, this thing has not bubbled in the 5 months or so that I have had him.

I am so confused now. I guess I need to look up some LTA's and see if I can find a tale tale sign.

That anemone Is a e. quadricolor. Not a rose morph, just a regular colored bubble tip anemone. You could say all bubble tips are false rose's that arent red or pink. But the white stripes around the mouth are a very very strong indicator of quadricolor. That is what you have. You could call it a orange bubble tip if you want.

cool, I think I will......hmm, maybe if I give it a cool name, I can sell all of it's clones at $100 each...

Orange anemone?
Sunkist anemone?

hmmm, figures I would get orange, nothing rhymes with Orange!

That's an Orange Creamsicle Bubble Tip Anemone (OCBTA). The orange tips with the creamy center yep definately.

Too bad it wasn't an OCDTA, then maybe it would clean the tank for me.

<obssesive compulsive disorder pun for those that didn't get it>

Its a Quad BTA. Some people liken a "rose BTA" to a really red color morph. But even the pinkish/orange ones are called rose's for the most part. Some do and some don't have bubbles at times. One thing for sure is that your flirting with a mushed/mangled BTA if you are running that power head so closely to it. They do like to wander and that is one place you don't want it wandering into.

Pics of mine are in my gallery. I've had it 2yrs before it split.

Yeah, he moved himself there so I haven't attempted to move him. He moved there a couple months ago when I put in the new T5 light set up.
The power head has the grate thing it comes with on the pick up end, and then it it showed between two rocks in a nook, so hopefully he won't decide to drop straight down if he moves, that's about the only way he could hit it.

If there is a way it will. Not to argue but its sure dang close. Your choice to leave it or not. Just my word of caution is all.

Another option is to wrap some plastic needle point canvas around the intake on your powerhead. It will cost you less than a dollar - talk a bout an ounce of prevention vs the cost of a cure! BTA's are notorious for wandering into powerheads and intakes - they're about the consistency of jell-o so it doesn't take much.

Here's a pic of our overflow intake covered - not a great pic of our rose, but she was pretty new still, now she comes out a lot more, I think I need to do a little more rockscaping and change some things to protect a few other things from her ;)

I wonder if your bta will darken a bit. I'm pretty sure I've seen a darker brownish color with the orange tips.

Good luck!

Well the MJ1200 comes with a stock basket that goes over the inlet, that I figured is enough, but maybe I will jump down to the fabric store and pick up some of that stuff.
I should be re doing my rock work and a few other things <Thanks to bubble algae> in the near future, so would be a good time to do it.

Nope, the stock intake grill will result in a shredded anemone being torn to pieces by the impellar.

I disagree just a tiny bit with this statement. I don't believe they are wandering at all...I think they are searching out powerheads and directing themselves right into them:). BTA's need a new nickname(especially since a lot of them don't "bubble"), like kamikaze's.

And Kevin is right, the grill MJ gives you does no good against a fiesty anem...it can get pulled right through, piece by piece.
