Filters

I'm going to be ordering some new filters and was just wondering what kind of filters everybody uses in their RO units.

Here is what I was thinking about getting. 1 POLY SEDIMENT FILTER - 5 MICRON and 1 MATRIKX CR1 CARBON BLOCK FILTER. What do you guy think will this work or is there something better?

Well, how old are the membranes and do you also have DI on there? The pre and carbon seem like good choices.

Hopefully you will be ordering from our buddies at the TheFilterGuys. ;0) They treat people so well I always like to give them a plug.

Monty, is there 3 canisters on that ro unit? I thought there was just a sediment and carbon.....

Heh ok, i read your post wrong, you might want to consider a few sediment filters and then the carbon. You usually change the sidiment filters more than anything else, maybe even try a few sizes, like get some 1 microns and some 5 microns, they are only $3 a pop.

No, you need the carbon, carbon removes the chlorine, if chlorine gets to your membrane it will ruin it. I was just saying buy more sediment filters than carbon filters because you change them out more.

Ok so this is what I'm going to order. 2 1 micron spun poly sediment filter, 2 5 micron poly sediment filter, and a Matrikx Cto12 carbon block 5 micron 6,000 and a extra canister. So altogether I will be running 4 canisters.

So this is how I'm going to do it, Its going to go threw the carbon then the first micron filter then another micron and then the DI. How dose that sound for filtration?

Nope, sediment, carbon, ro, then DI....the sediment take out all teh big particles down to 1 or 5 microns, then the carbon removes metals and chlorine, the ro will take the water down to %90 pure, then the DI will pull out whatever is leftover.

Unless you are having specific troubles with high sediment loads, there is probably no need for 2 sediment filters.

Same with the carbon blocks - if you order high quality blocks (which you are), no need for two of them unless you just want some "insurance."

If you put together the cartridges you mentioned above, put the 5 mic sediment filter first, followed by the 1 mic sediment filter, and then your carbon bock(s).

Teh RO mmbrane is in a white housing about 2.5 inches in diameter and 13 inches long the is mounted about the metal bracket. You'll see that the RO membrane housing has three ports - one on the end of the housing that unscrews and two ports on the other end.

The port on the end that unscrews is where water enters the RO membrane housing.

At the other end, one of the ports is where purified water (a.k.a. "permeate" or "RO water") exits the housing; and the other port is where waste water (a.k.a. "flush water" or "concentrate") exits the housing.
