I saw my wrasse bury itself in sand. It was awesome, he disappeared like there was nothing even there. Just wanted to share.

Cool to see. I've seen it in qt tanks with a small bowl of sand. Never catch the m doing it in the displays as most of the sand piles are in the back.

I've seen a couple of mine do it a couple times. It is quite a site isn't it? One time I saw my melanurus half buried. Her face sticking out and thought she was dead! Scared the crap outta me but she was just sleeping with the covers off I guess haha

I feel bad because mine is a little scrated up because my tank has little sand and scrapes itself on rocks doin it maybe ill add a cup of sand hidden

I was concerned with that thread title, Brando :fun4:

Ready to be bored with one of my true stories?
I used to have 5 Leopard Wrasses and a DSB in the old 220.

Todd (of T's Torch fame) came over to get some pix of my reef aquarium one afternoon but every day (around 5PM) these Wrasses would start loosening up their beds and my aquarium looked like a thermocline in Lake Ontario: MUD. Ruined the photo op. Wish I had those pix now!

pretty kewl!

my father told me that his wrasses would bury themselves at night, i didnt believe him at all, thought he was joking around making small talk, until i seen it for myself, quite fun to watch :)

now that we are bare bottom, our wrasse would sleep in the cheato ball!

yup, it slept in the cheato, actually both wrasse did both in separate tanks

That's awesome! My leopard likes to turn in early, and usually buries itself around 9 when the days go off (even though the actinics are on for 3 more hours and all of the other fish are still moving around). The lights go off and there will be a big puff of sand. Once in a while the kids will look under the tank to try to find it.

I used to have a 4 line that would make a mucus cocoon to sleep in. Occasionally you'd be able to find him nested into a rock. At lights on you'd usually see a little wrasse sized booger floating around... followed by the wrasse... eating it.

Cool info- thanks. I have a melanarus who buries himself every night like clockwork. For a couple of hours he does so i will see puffs of sand that only he could create. Loosening the sandbed. Brilliant!
