First time using my Nikkor 105mm F2.8....comments?

Hey!

I'd like some constructive criticism (or kudos if you think I did a decent job!) for my first ever set of macro shots. I bought this lens on a trip to Hong Kong late last year but only started using it this past weekend lol

The lens is on my trusty Nikon D200, post-processing done in Adobe LR 3

No tripod used this time around...seems the VR on the lens is pretty damn good, if i do say so myself...got no complaints!

Lovely images. Nice usage of shallow depth of field. #2, #4 and #5 are especially well done. #4 is probably my favorite.

Ok, while I do agree some are pretty good, and I like a couple you didn't post even more, (#22 comes to mind), I'm guessing you stayed at 2.8 for most of them. I would like to have seen #4 with more DOF. Maybe to 9.5 or 11. Or if you needed the speed because of lighting, maybe just back up a bit. Same with #5, have the inside of the flower in focus then allow the petals to blur more as they come towards the forefront. Very good though!!!

thanks for the comments.....i kept the f-stop relatively low to get a more dramatic effect, but essentially it was because it was my first time using the lens...bit of learning to go :)

from these shots i hope to fine tune what i'm doing then start exploring other settings and stops. I want to head back soon with my tripod and flash...got some ideas for some shots :)

thanks for the tips....definitely will try some of this out :) I want to re-take #5 with a closer view. There was a petal at an odd angle that came out like a blur in the bottom-right corner of the centre.....ugh

thanks for adding me Brent...added you too
