Thru my window

That is really awesome!

I have found kestrals to be very skittish. I see them occasionally when out looking for snowy owls on power lines with a mouse or vole, but they always fly away once I stop or roll down my window.

I agree Jordan. Kestrels and Kingfishers. grrrrrrrr!!! I was pulled over in my car shooting birds out my window when this guy landed on a post about 50 yards away. I dont think he knew I was there. Definitely one of those birds you hope comes to you by accident, because its nearly impossible to come to them.

This was a very fun place to shoot. We would slowly roll down this old farm road that was lousy with meadowlarks. Watching for them to pop up onto these neat old, moss covered posts. The holy grail for this situation was to get them singing on a really neat post.

gotta agree with adrienne!!

may i have your permission to use the pheasant for my work wallpaper?

btw, jay, don't bother putting cayenne pepper in your bird seed. it didn't phase the squirrels one bit and in fact, they all came to supper last night wearing little sombreros and singing "ohhh solo mio". another theory shot to hell. ;)

Feel free to use it Nina. Id be honored. LOL @ the quirrels. Duly noted!

By the way for anyone curious. This last batch of photos were shot with a Nikon D3100. A VERY affordable entry level DSLR that I recommend highly.

Nice shots Jesse! I have chased kingfishers all over the countryside with few results.

Heres a neat little video

jesse, is the 4th picture a tree swallow?

thanks, jay, i love that picture, reminds me of minnesota! :) they are starting to release some pheasants around here but i've only seen one or two over the years.

Nice shots of the meadowlarks Jay, those posts with the moss and lichens have tons of character :)

There's all kinds of fields that are teaming with meadowlarks. This one had these amazing old posts which is why we came here so much. Plus the road is very remote so we kinda could sprawl out with the car lol

I'd say it's a tree swallow for sure. If you want to message me an email, I'll send you a full res copy of the pheasant. I have another very nice image from this shoot too that I could include.

beautiful, as usual, jay!

i was sitting at the edge of the field while my dogs hunted for possum poop a couple of days ago. i swear, i heard a pileated woody chattering. i walked up and down the fence row and scoured the tops of every tree but never did see it. i put a couple of suet cakes on the trunk of the big oak tree out in the pig pen because that's where i saw it that couple of times. i wonder if i need to put it up higher on the tree?

Love the nuthatches and the pine siskins Jay!

This is the first winter I've really had a chance to observe siskins. They have quite the character. They are very vocal and when I go out I usually hear their loud Zweet call and constant chittering. They seem to get especially chittery as I fill up the nyger feeder lol, and they don't seem very shy, they move in pretty quick even if I'm standing only 5 or 6 feet away.

They are extremely brazen! They posture and chase off almost anything even twice their size. I didnt have a single one last year for some reason. but usually theyre a regular customer.

Heres a nice shot from today...

Nina. I think I should probably say, I dont think it matters. They notoriously search the bases of trees but are very mobile. Its possible mounting it low will only let ground dwelling wildlife raid it. And/or dogs and pigs LOL

Very nice, Jay. Which lens?
