Fish getting in Overflow

Our six-line wrasse has ended up in our perfecto reef ready's overflow. Still haven't figured out how to get him out. Think he must've gone through under the return pipe, it sits about 1/2 inch higher than the overflow. Anybody else have this problem? How did you correct it? Could we place a piece of foam pipe insulation around the return pipe?

Hard to say without a picture but foam insulation should work. Make sure it is ok for aquariums though. Some foam may leak chemicals into the water.

go to a craft store and they my have plastic mesh my overflow came with this stuff but I read on here a few months back that someone found some at a craft store

I don't have much trouble with it. I've had a clown go there but I just had to stick my hand in there an shooo!! him back into the display.

I have pieces of tin foil over my overflows. It keeps light out to prevent problem algae from clogging things up back there. No light, no algae.

Funny you should post this today because my wife came out to get me because she heard the tinfoil rattling around. Found my skunk clown on top of it. If the halides had been on he'd have been cooked to a crisp! Today's his lucky day. Ida been bummin cause he's my first saltwater fish ever. Been with me almost 4 years!

Anyway, if you decide to go w/ tinfoil, make sure you give it a little tent peak in the middle above your durso. If it touches down over that, you'll have a ton of noise and a potential mess on your hands.

Good Luck!

Thanks to all! Life is pretty good when you can ask a question, go to work, and come home to a half dozen suggestions!
Was thinking about the foam insulation cause it is easy to cut, and black, wouldn't be too noticeable. Worried about it being safe however.
Not knocking Perfecto, but this tank has given me fits, especially the return pipe. They drilled the siphon break hole in the same direction as the 90 degree fitting, and immediatelt underneath it. When I kicked the pump on, it was shooting water (and bubbles) into the tank. Not to mention the noise. When I asked someone at the LFS where we bought it, he said everyone cuts a 1/2 inch off the pipe. Of course, I find this out after the tank is filled. But for the kind of money I spent on getting a manufactured reef ready tank, why should I need to make any adjustments to the basic setup?
Was wondering what other aquarium brands you guys own and if you had any similar, or worse problems.

My six line wrasse also got into my perfecto tank overflow. I cut a peice out of a milk jug to fit snug around the return pipe and it has kept him out ever since. Also i put a piece of airline tubing in the anti-siphon hole on the return pipe and faced it down behind the overflow. The only thing you need to know if you do this is that the piece of airline tubing must be cut above the water line behind the overflow or it will start a siphon when u shut your pump off.
