Not for smallmouth but it is for crappie. 8-10' foot deep grey fly w/pink head tipped with a minnow. I use the same outfit for crappie in the winter as I do for winter smallmouth. The longer rod lets me set my float deeper for bigger fish. Less than 45 degrees for float&fly smallmouth.

4 of a 5 fish limit of smallmouth that weighed over 18 pounds from a tournament last spring. My partner and got first place and a nice check!!

Nice smallies Mark:)

Makes sense with float and fly for crappies now that I think about it. I knew it was a cold weather technique for smallies. Maybe you can teach me something about that someday:)

Sounds like fun! :)

OK to bring this thing back:)
I was on Loudon all day yesterday. Lots of little largemouth but no big ones. I did a lot of scouting and found some new spots that look promising. All in all I caught fish and I wasn't studying so it was a good day:D

I'm hoping to get out next week... :) I didn't get to go before school was out... And I'll be busy catching up on work this week...

Well just LMK when you want to hit the "hot spots". I'm trying to make it out at least once a week:)

I'd love to do the charter thing but I'm out due to keeping the kids every weekend while Amy works.

Theres no way I can make a charter... I have to take some summer classes apparently... :(

These are some pics from Chris and my excursion on Monday... :) Was a great time... I think Chris caught about 6 to my 2... I'm still getting the hang of Bass fishing...

Jester, I'm thinking of car pooling down Friday PM, fish 6am-6pm Sat (that's the min. on the weekends from what I've read). Get a room Sat.PM and drive back Sunday.

Hit Loudon again today. It was really windy but I caught about 10 with most going 1lb to 2lb. Stripers were chasing shad up shallow which made for some good entertainment for an hour or so:)

OK time to bring this one back:)

I went to the Pigeon river today. It was kinda slow at times but I caught about 25. Mostly smallmouth with a couple in the 3 pound range and the rest in the 1 to 2 pound range, a 6 or 7 pound channel cat and a redeye. Everyone was released safely:D
