For the love of Genicanthus

Here's my teeny tiny Lamarck, hangin' just fine with all the comparative monsters in the FOWLR :)

I have a 5-inch female Watanabei. Would adding a new, small female encourage the veteran female to become a male? Anyone's input and experience would be great, thanks!

IMO/E adding any small Genicanthus female, will probably make the bigger one turn male

Have you done this before with two different species and achieved metamorphosis?
metamorphosis?... Sounds like you want an ugly sea cucumber to turn into a beautiful butterfly! ;)
But yes, many times... Also be aware that if you add a large Genicanthus male, and already have a male in your tank, there is a strong possibility that the smaller male will revert back to female colors.

How much different in size do they need to be?
He said that he had a 5" female... Should be easy to find smaller females.
I've mixed at least 3 types of similar sized females, without problems... Perhaps the large tank (450g) helped.

aquaph8- What a beautiful pair! I just picked up a small female and I'm hoping to find another. Did you initially start with two females? The male is stunning!

Thanks, they came as a pair from DD. I've only had them long enough for a QT period and they went into the display yesterday. Took a long time to start seeing these guys in the hobby again. Best of luck finding another.

Nice, I must have missed them on DD. I check it daily but never saw that pair. Great addition, best of luck with them. How big is the male?

Thank you, He's probably about 5", making him the biggest fish I have, just a little bigger than my lavender tang.

What a nice healthy looking pair. So lovely!

Thank you Karen, DD really did a nice job with these two, they came packed in a huge box.
