Free stuff and why you dont sell it.

I just cought another member of cmas selling about $900 in stuff i gave "them" for free on CL. He avoided my email address but when i sent an email from my company email he responded within 5 mins. This is just sad, The items givin away were....

1. mag 18
2. 75g tank and stand
3. 40b sump
4. 48in PC fixture (6 bulb)

I gave this setup to a person who said he "just never had enough money to buy the tank and stuff"

Mins after he found out it was me on the email he pulled the listing.

You know who you are. your a asshat:mad2:
 
wow that is wrong, plus it really isn't worth $900 anyway if what you posted was what he was selling.
 
Yea shhaaaddy!! I got worried earlier when jp thought I was selling a frag he gave me :(

That's why we know who to trade and deal with!

Everything was pretty much new i gave him the recipts for it all to $874.91 so yes it was around $900 he had it all listed for $500 OBO
 
oops left out the skimmer! came with a coralife ss65 with rio1700 too

121a......The price isnt even that important the fact he tried to sell crap i GAVE him for free is just shady binnesssss
 
you got to sell the stuff, even if its at a fifth of the price, so that if they do sell it you wont feel so bad. no good deed goes unpunished. i feel you too, hearing a sob story about not having any cash. you should tell us who it is, that should be a new way to deal with these people, if its within cmas rules.
 
That is so wrong... If you don't have the cash to set up the tank then what are you gunna put in it? I've noticed a couple of people lately asking for free livestock on craigslist which I kinda find annoying.
 
What annoys me is that its against u jon. No one is friendlier and better than you! You go out of way to help.

This man was in my garage for a week working my wood.

Frankly I would be upset if I were you. Think you should take it up with this individual personally. Using this forum to put pressure is fine but legally speaking it is now his property since you gifted it to him. He can do what he chooses to do with it. Think any public defamation even if its on this forum could potentially expose you to a legal suit so I would recommend refraining from it. Hopefully all of us can use this as a lesson well learnt and make sure we donate to the right person.

Any thoughts from our legal folks? Any recourse here?
 
Of course there's nothing he can technically do since he gave the stuff to the guy, but just saying who he is so we know not to ever deal with them is good IMO...

Theres no legal recourse in any of this, all Jon is stating is what he feels are shady practices.... I HOPE it comes out who it is so I can cross them off my list of people I would ever help out...
 
I'm no legal scholar, but I'm about 99% sure that defamation of character, libel, etc. only apply to cases where the information being spread about the person is untrue. If you did something and you're upset that someone is telling other people about it, then you just shouldn't have done it in the first place.
