Gem tang lesson learned and disease help

Hello all,

Long story short , we didn't QT SOME high end delicate wrasses from a online vendor and now it has bite us hard, our gem tank has what I thought was Ich but not sure now - we have pulled the gem from the dt and now he is in tt according to normal protocol , we are on our 3 transfer and now I can see what look like bullet holes in the fish surrounded by a white ring ?? Anyone have any ideas ?

With the tattered find and ich looking spots only in the middle of the fish I'm not sure what's going on. Hopefully Steve will lend his expertise

Could you possibly post a timeline of what happened? When you added the wrasses, first symptoms showing up, all fish that became infected, etc

Only fish that had signs where tangs - we re homes the other 2 and this one keeping was at hypo for 30 days in dt and symptoms approved raised salinity and symptoms came back so I though for sure it has been Ich - so pulled all our fish dt will go fallow - but currently this guy has been coming up from hypo for 30 days at 1.008 and is now at 1.013 and eating okay but has developed these bullet holes- maybe from scratching ? Not sure going to prazpro regardless tonight and cont t t and see where we end up

I have see many cases of Ich and treated many different species and tangs - have been pretty sure on most but this just presents differently and looks so much worse - this fish literally has spot of dermis gone and i have no clue how to treat bc idk the pathogen at hand - also plz note this fish was extremely healthy before the time bomb wrasses

A secondary bacterial or fungal
Infection after treatment is not unreasonable. Prazi pro is a great next step. If you feel comfortable doing this, maybe a prazi dip in a small
Container and then introduced back into qt would be a good step. Praziquantel works as a paralytic for worms so they detach. It will take 48 hours to kill them. If you did a dip in a prazi solution and then put back into qt, you could get rid of the one that's came off immediately. The holes in the body are concerning to me. Any other symptoms? Fast breathing, inflamed gills, clamped fins, etc.

Hopefully Casmiri pulls through it. I'm sure she will, seeing pics of how big she was.

You probably know this but all of the Zebrasoma's have been hardy little ***** once they've cleared QT and are eating.

I'm more like you I know everyfish is susceptible of getting Ick. But I would have taken money that the Gem would have been one of the last to show it. Ick that is, seeing how healthy she was, and how long you've had it.

Might want to try the food (selcon and a variety of foods) way before treating it with meds and see if that helps.

I sometimes feel meds mess with then more.

Moving forward with praz - I will think on the dip - do you have dosing info? Or is it on the bottle ----- it's super frustrating - we Have qted everything up till these last wrasses and it is upsetting bc they were my dream fish and they time boned us so hard - it was a trio of red tail tamarins from DD - so felt as comfy as I thought I would with any situation - bc no way they would of survived. T t so I just dropped them in and now we are having to basically re start - our coral is being housed by a friend and all the including our choat are just fine - only fish having problems is this guy- all our other tangs have been re homes for now -

Thanks buddy I am confident but just wanted some back up and a learning experience for us high end guys to always QT - DTA anyone

For such an expensive fish, I would do the exact directions on the bottle, use water from the tank and add the exact dose recommended. The introduce back into qt. you will want to watch very carefully to see if any parasites come out during the dip, which would give you a positive id for flukes.

Also, can you describe the larger patches? They appear to be fuzzy? How often are you doing water changes? Is there a uv sterilizer on it?

Some of those larger patterns are the flashing tint of the fish it's self - gem owners will know but they show large strips that looks like white bars when upset - I hit him with a flash light to get a pic so I gore the large strips they are not the droids we are looking for - no uv tank has been at hypo for over 30 days - haven't don't a water change since 2013 - I run zeo

All the light white that is not small circles disappears from the fish when not up set

If I were you, I would contact the aquariums in your area and try and find a marine biologist that specializes in disease or a veterinarian to consult with. You can also contact schools of veterinary medicine.
