Well, I'm not intentionally breeding them, but there are 3 pairs (plus 1 straggler) that have been in my tank for over 2 years (450 gallon). 2 of the pairs breed, and has been going on for at least 18 months, maybe longer.

I have never seen a baby grow, so assume they get eaten pretty quick. If I had more patience and time I would try to get the babies out and raise them on brine shrimp, but it would be near impossible to get the males out of the tank.

If you want to give it a shot catch the male at night. Use a bright light to stun him, then net him into a container of tank water. He will spit the babies out when startled by the capture and you will have the babies in a container.

You can then release them into your sump and feed them frozen baby brine shrimp and the smallest pellets you can find.

They are incredibly easy to raise.

EDIT: I read your signature and saw that your tank is 450 gallons!! Maybe you can just hope they find their way into your sump on their own!

Looked last night and at least 3 are in my sump in a safe area. I will add some food down there each day and see how it goes.

congrats,feed them live brine and they should do great,all mine wouldnt eat frozen brine until they were about 2 months old.I really enjoyed raiseing them.

Are Bangaii fun fish to have? I was thinking of adding a pair to my 140 later on down the road. Right now I only have a yellow wrasse. I have a trio of lyretails in QT right now, so it's a ways out.

great personalities, swim slow, pair up nicely/easily, love the coloration, etc. so ya, i'd say they are fun fish... as fun as a fish can be anyway :fish1:

i'm not a personal fan of pajama's coloration, and they get pretty stink'n ugly as they age. but this is just my opinion... i'm sure plenty of people love them as well.

I've never owned any but I prefer the crisp silver, white and black lines of the bangaiis over the duller coloration of the pj's.

There is only a top view of them so pics would be difficult. There are four of them now all huddled in a safe spot. I've been dumping some Rod's Food over them and they readily eat it. Will keep it up and report progress!

You can build them a fake urchin so they feel more comfortable. A few black zip ties zipped together is all that's needed.

a week later and they are still holding strong. eating cyclopeeze (frozen) and Rod's Food still. hard to tell if they are growing any though... how fast do they grow?

Not that I saw, I ordered 5. The size is medium ones, 7/8 to 1 3/4.
