Getting the black back in my SI Percs

they might just lose color with or without the BTA, it might be the absent of a gigantea or another one or completely another factor. I have ones that slowly lose the color in QT after 6 months or so without any anemones.

Agree w/ Orion on this one.
Mine lost black in BTAs, and then I pulled BTAs and color has begun to come back.
Right now they are residing in a monti cap, and almost have all their black back.

Mines lost all the black when hosted in a rbta. Got rid of the RBTAs and replaced it with a gigantea and the color came back a couple days later. Unfortunately, the gigantea died a week later. I put a Sabae in the tank and the clown hosted in it and the color came back. I didn't like the tanish/greyish color of the sabae and gave it away. The clowns then hosted in hairy mushrooms without losing any color.
They are now in my newly acquired gigantea which is doing well for two weeks.
So it just RBTAs that I had experience with that faded my clowns' colors.

interesting, I had ones that have no host and lost sustainal black color, but they also are under lower lighting conditions.

Any idea of the origins of those percs, all of those mine that turned orange are indo.

Have had my camera out taking pictures of one of my other tanks, and thought it would be a good time for an update.

The clowns are doing great, and as some of the pictures will show, they are showing pre-spawning behavior. To my eye they have gotten a little bit blacker, but still not to where they were when I first received them.

Very beautiful. I can even see teeth! :)
What kind of camera is that?
If I add a RBTA to a tank with SI Percs or Onyx Percs (no positive ID) will they loose their black? What is you conclusion to what happens? Thank you!

Thanks.

It is a Nikon D60, with the standard 18-55 lens.

From what I have read they have also lost their black with BTAs.

Been a busy few days in this tank, first one of my cleaner shrimp released its eggs -- which the clowns loved.

A few pics of that,

Overall shot -- the blurry spots are the "baby" shrimp.

Perhaps it was the extra food, but the pair laid their first batch of eggs tonight. It is a small batch, which it to be expected, but a nice starting point.

Congrats on the spawning of the clowns and the shrimp. You must be doing something correctly.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I wish I knew what I was doing to cause this. Just make sure I keep them well feed -- both the clowns and the shrimp -- and do my weekly water changes.

Awesome thread, congrats on the eggs! are your percs wild caught or tank raised? I hope the rest of the black comes back they were so sharp looking.

Cool thread! What lighting do you have on this tank, and how deep is it?

Not sure how I missed your post -- sorry. Thanks. I am using a 250 DE XM 20,000 -- Current SunPod fixture. The tank is a 33 cube, and is 23 inches from the top rim to the bottom rim.

Had the camera out tonight...

While the return of the black has slowed down, it is still happening. They are looking pretty good to me. Hopefully sometime in Feb, they will be in a new tank -- 40 breeder. Already have the tank, just need my back to be good enough to do the transfer.

I just got 2 Onyx clowns and am in the process of watching them change colors towards black(er). I love them both ways. Going back and forth in your pictures is truly amazing. It's as if they have internal black paint that comes and goes like a lava lamp. LOL Well, with your time lapse photography anyway.

Great thread! Thank you for your pictures and effort.

A little bit more. They are currently anemone-less. I don't have any updated pictures, and won't be able to get any for at least 2 weeks -- in the process of moving to a new place. However, once I am settled in, I will get some updated pictures.

I would be interested to see pictures of them now. You got me very nervous because I have a beautiful onyx arriving in 2 days and I have a purple LTA and I dont want it to lose its black coloration. I'm debating getting rid of it.

What are the chances mine will lose its coloration?

My experience is with only one pair and one LTA, and it was shocking -- hence this thread. I will tell you this much, I am planning on getting them another anemone (( once I, and the tank are fully settled into the new place )); as much as I want an LTA, I will not be attempting another one with this pair. As for what anemone... either another S. Haddoni (( though might not, the tank has a fish that I don't want to risk )), or something different -- H. Crispa or H. Malu -- not sure what happens with either one of those.

Anyway, I will be at the new place tomorrow, and will do my best to get a picture or two.

Good luck to you and your tanks in the move. I've moved mine three three times in a year - I don't wish moving a reef on anyone!
