GHL Mitras Club

According to the table on http://ghlna.com/mitras-lx-6200-pendant (bottom of page):

- High Output Mode has a max power usage of 190W, with light output comparable with 340W MH.

- High Efficiency Mode has max power usage 120W, with light output comparable with 250W MH.

Note that the percentages for max power usage and MH-comparable light output are not the same (120/190=63% and 250/340=74%, respectively). Perhaps this can be explained by non-linear efficiency between LED and MH.

Also, what are we comparing --power consumtion, PAR or apparent brighness? One way to increase efficiency is by reducing green and yellow light, that corals supposedly don't use anyway. This saves electricity, but the light may appear dimmer to human eyes (that are more sensitive to green than blue light), and color rendition may suffer. I don't know if GHL's efficiency mode actually works that way, but if it did, it would be hard to compare the two modes fairly.

Ghl should do something like gisemann I believe has done offering a light program for their led fixtures for color , growth etc. from the company

feedback from a new mitras user...

Just wanted to let you know the light is sick!! I'm very pleased with the unit, and I'm running it on factory default setting, AND the tank has only been up since April 10, 2014, only 1 month old!

I started at 60% on high output and just yesterday got it up to100%, my Aussie SPS frags are loving it. Have a few Spathulata frags that are really doing well and a hot pink table frag holding strong. All corals have unbelievable polyp extension and are encrusting at the base after only 2 weeks in this tank.

Amazing LED Light, best on the market by far!!!

All frags are holding color and the cool part is that all the frags came from a local importer who still has the colonies under 400 watt Radiums, my fav MH bulb for SPS, and frag coloration is holding very true to the colonies and in some cases looking better. Especially the pieces with blue polyps. I love being able to compare frequently to see the differences.

Attached are some pics, lol please excuse my 1 month old algae bloom, although I think a lot of this is coming from the amount of food I'm giving these SPS, oyster feast, reef chili, various types of bacteria, fish poop...

The little green piece in front is green with blue polyps, looking awesome in person!

"Factory default! "

My thoughts exactly, this is actually my tank and I just haven't got around to buying a computer to control the light fully, everything I use is Mac base. Regardless, coloration and growth is there on the factory default, maybe we reefers just mess with stuff too much.

Be careful with the intensity of the Mitras 6200, I moved from 80% to 100% after going to my local coral slinger yesterday and looking at his brand new Radiums. I went back down to 80% today as I already noticed a lightening in some corals. Maybe my next increase will be to 85%.

Thanks GHL for aking quality aquarium equipment!

I have them set at 82% on efficient output 12" off the water surface. That's as high as I can go for now and my sps respond to that setting very well.

Hey guys, I'm getting back into the hobby after being out for a couple years, and trying to find the right lighting. I just moved into my new house so I'm in the building/buying stage. I went from MH to T5 in my old tank and was happy with the change. I still might go the T5 route again, but wanted to check out what LEDs have to offer. So my question is my tank is 70 gallon 36"Lx24"Hx18"W, so how many Mitras do I need to light this tank? My tank will be SPS dominant with clams, and maybe some LPS. Thank you for your help

Thanks for the response. So I take it these lights are great with all sps and clams, even in the sand bed? Also where can I purchase these lights at, can't seem to find out where to buy them?

well can we please have a few updated pictures please? I will be having a lot of questions in the weeks to come as I am and should be joining the Mitras family in two weeks. getting a almost new lx6100hv and cant wait to start using the hyper violet as my current fixture does not have that or UV

Thanks
Michael

Welcome to the Mitras club ;) I am sure Mitras owners would be happy to show you their tanks ;)

I've had my Mitras for over a year now. I have three on a 175 bow front tank. No issues thus far. I had a bad power supply when they were brand new but it was just a fluke. I installed a profile of some reefer on here and they have been working great. I'm glad they finally came out with the wireless adapter for the Profilux.

Hi
First few page of this massive thread an early adopter published in tank PAR on a 6100 it was pretty impressive, he search tool should find the post and photo

Readings taken with an Apogee PAR meter, all pumps turned off in my tank. Tank had a water change yesterday. To keep the readings consistent I placed the meter's sensor in the tank and took a reading in High Efficiency mode on the Mitras then without moving the sensor changes the lights to High Output mode and took the reading. This was repeated at each level so the results are comparable with my situation.

Tank Specs; 140x75x55 deep (water level approx 57)

PAR readings in High Efficiency mode
240 (sandbed)
312
368
576 (water level)

PAR readings in High Output mode
340 (sandbed)
450
560
810 (water level)

thanks found it, can you please tell me what the dimensions are in inches please for this tank?
thanks

Hey guys, I'm suffering with some dinos on the sandbed, is there and what Chanel could I drop off to help get rid of them, or could it just be lighting in general
