I spoke with a reefer and a problem he has with the "all in one" lighting units, is when you have a problem, you'll have to take it all apart, and/or send it in to be repaired, so the shipping would be costly.
What's your thoughts ?
That's not entirely true. I had a T5 ballast fail on my Giesemann and CoralVue too my serial number, checked my registration and sent me a new ballast. They didnt even ask for the old one back. It was really the best customer support I've had in the aquarium industry. I was actually really surprised how they handled it.
i've always had great coralvue support. send them a ticket and they send out repair parts same day or next free as long as you're honest and there isn't obvious neglect involved i can't imagine why one would have an issue based on my several experiences with jeremy and carlos over at coralvue. What if your light was out of warranty or if like me, purchased a used one ?
Hello all!
I have been looking into some new lighting as I am hoping to move up to a 75 gallon tank here soon. This guy is what I have decided to grab up. I only have LPS corals right now and some softies, but I would love to start getting into SPS for the new tank. What bulb combo would you recommend? Hoping to have some birds nest and maybe one day acro on the top of the reef.

Sorry but have you taken a look inside the Matrix? The "Active" cooling part consists of two fans, one draws air in and the second exhausts it out. The air travels between the fans but stays behind the reflectors. As such, there is no air movement over the bulbs themselves to cool them. At most the reflectors and ballasts are kept cool by this mechanism.
There is potentially a way to force the air to move over the bulbs by blocking air the direct flow of air between the fans with foam strips. Would need to use that orange heat resistant silicone foam to do this and that matterial is pretty expensive.
Well, if we look at the fixture and fans in/out function and as the fixture is well sealed with splash guard this will make like a "vacuum" effect behind the reflector but also where the tubes are located.
Maybe also changing the fans could help on the cooling. Actually the Giesemann use Sunon MagLev MB60101V3-000U-A99 cooling fan with following specs
