Go Big OR Go Home! Construction of a 1000 gallon System!!

The thing about larger systems is that they are inherently more stable so in theory it should take less work in the sense that water parameters won't swing like they do in a small tank. Of course, cleaning glass etc. does take a lot longer. Can you say, "TURBO"? :D

GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

your tank is about as big as my room!

your electric must be abotu 200 dollars a month... just for halides, 50 for reactors, 50 for pumps, man i envy you, im seeing tank of the mont hvery soon!

i dont know about very soon, but, it is certainly on it way....that is a lot of tank to fill in....

Thanks for the comments, but I have a long way to go before even being in the same league as some of those tanks!! You are right, it will take a lot to fill this tank, and a few years of growing. But, that is the fun part. I just ordered a male and female blonde Naso, should be here on Tuesday. So, I am getting closer to my fish list!!!!:D

Here is some data I pulled from the AQIIIPro.

The chiller turns on at 79.1 and turns off at 78.5. The heater comes on at 78 and turns off at 78.5. The last part of the data reflects this as the front part was when I was "tweaking" the program. I can't wait to program this thing to its fullest potential. Very exciting, for the geek in me...

any idea why the pH is low? I had that problem for a while during start up and used baked baking soda to bring it up to 8.20.

I am not real concered about it now. The reason is because I didn't suppliment any Ca or Alk when I initial added my salt. The Tropic Marin, or any salt, you need to add more alk and Ca to get to the levels needed. But, for now I only have fish and rock. When I get my Ca reactor and kalk stir it will go up. I am glad to see a small swing from day and night.

Plus, I have a lot more surface area then most tanks when you add the 3 sumps, so that will help stableize the pH once it is buffered.

yeah now I have the opposite problem... I am running at 8.29 - 8.50. I have just under 100 sq. feet of surface area too. I popped a PH into my fuge so that thing is nearly a whirlpool...I may have to change that. Don't know yet. I just got a ration of crap about introducing the maroons and their BTA so early but with systems the size of ours, things run a bit differently and they can handle more. It all looks good to me.

I still can't find the same felt bags you are using. The ones I am getting from customaquatic are too big to get properly cinched down on 2" pipe. I cannot get them to mount like yours and they have a tendancy to move around a bit and allow water to flow out through the top. I couldn't find the right adapters either like you recommended. The only ones I could find are ABS and I don't think I can use that right?

The others I found which matched yours were horribly expensive. Where did you get them?

brian:

How large are the holes in the Eurobracing that you are using to mount the sea swirls. ? Also, how far away from the tank walls are they located. ?

Thanks... I need to finalize these dimensions soon.

Here is a drawing of my tank. The Eurobracing is 6" and the holes are centered in the corners on the Eurobrace. Hope this helps!

Do you think the holes will affect the eurobracings structural integrity?

I asked that question to the biulder, and he said no since he was going to tempered.

You need to find a 2" to a 4" adapter. You can find it in the plumbing section of a hardware store, ussualy in the drainage area. The bags will not slip down or move. I got the filter bags from Premium Aquatics. They have two sizes, here are the links.

Both have draw strings.

16" BAGS

30" BAGS

Those look like the ones I am getting...when you get a chance can you measure the mouth? The 16" & 30" refers to length and I want to make sure I actually do have the same ones.

I could not find that adapter at HD or Lowes except for in black ABS plastic. I did look in the drainage area but I'll check again. Sorry to be a pain but yours just look so much better than mine!

Lowes definitly has them, that is where I got mine. They are a 2" to a 4" adapter. Put your 2" PVC pipe on the end of it, and then tie string the bags closed and them zip tie them. Should work, thats what I have.

bstone, I've been following the thread the whole time and don't think I have seen this asked so I'm sorry if it has!

Why did you decide to make your external overlows so deep?

What do you guys think about adding half of the tangs now, and the other half later? This is what I was thinking..

ADD THESE FIRST
Naso Blonde Tang, Male
Naso Blonde Tang, Female
Vlamingi Tang
Sailfin (Deslardini) Tang
Small (Juvenile) Orangeband Tang

AND THEN ADD THESE ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS LATER
Yellow Belly Blue Hippo Tang
Sohal Tang
Powder Blue Tang
Achilles Tang
Small Yellow Tangs
Small Purple Tangs

I tried to match up similar body types/temperament in groups...

I'm not worried about the tank, the builder did a great job and he know what he was talking about when I asked him questions. There is hardly any noticeable deflection in the tank. I am very pleased with the builder.

Plus, he gave me a 5 year warranty. So, if he did have faith in his quality then he wouldn't of given me the warranty.

Anyway, back to my question on the tangs. Any comments?
