Go Big OR Go Home! Construction of a 1000 gallon System!!

I was referring to the tank cycle...

My question is, wouldn't it be better to add the schools first and then the more agressive tangs later? My theory is that if the schools are in first and establish their territory, then more agressive animals will more likely behave themselves when introduced.

i would wait and introduce them all at the same time (you've been so patient as it is, so why break the good habit)...i would place the schools in first though, then wait a few hours then dump in the rest.....

theres my 2 cent

I have some updated pictures. I just got done putting on the self leveling cement layer. I added about 3/4" of cement to the stand. Then I will put 1/2" Styrofoam on top of the cement, and then the tank will go on top of that.

bstone, I had a question about the "self leveling cement" you used... I went to HD and was talking to an employee who looked at me like I was from a different planet... He said as far as he knew there is nothing that "self levels". What I am looking to do is build a base on top of my basement floor (reverse of what you did) to place a stand on for my sump and ref... I wanted to lay down like some 6mil plastic to keep the cement from adhering to the basement floor. I planned on making a 2x4 frame so that I could pour in the cement to make a 2in thick base and wanted to get it as level as possible without much interaction and/or mess on my part...

So an Orange Vest says there is no self-leveling cement??? There definitely is and they should sell it at HD. Try another place maybe?

Man those guys are dumb! :D I can guarantee they have it. Not sure where it would be. I would guess probably in the flooring area. Around the ceramic tile and stuff?? Just a guess.

That is why I am asking... I looked for my self and found like fast setting and extra strength but nothing to do with self leveling... When talking with him he said that you could just add more water and it would make it self leveling per say since the mix would be more watered down... I know if you add more water it will take longer to cure, but I also heard if you add more water it will make the cement "weaker"... I could see it being weaker at first but over time it should be the same ??

I don't think "Orange Vests" know that they actually work in a hardware store half the time. "Self-Leveling Cement definitely does exist. I'm pretty sure it says "self-leveling" right on the bag too. :D I think its just made to be thinner (more wet) and take longer to dry. Also look for "floor leveling compound." That should work the same way. Good luck.

Got mine at Lowes, in the flooring section. You should be good to go. By the way, I still lveled out my 2x4's and tralled the cement to make sure it was level. Just FYI...

Ya, and we see where that got you; did you ever find your ring?? LOL

Must be nice not to have to work! :D

Is this the stuff... I went to HD and found the same stuff (diff brand) in the flooring area... Do you think if I used 1/8-1/4" layer over like a 15sq ft area it would be OK with like 1200lbs ??

Yep, I would still use 2x4's and level them and then trial over the 2/x4's with a straight bar. That will ensure you have a completely flat surface. I did this like 3 times and on large surfaces you should level with 2x4's.

I would do more then 1/4", I would do llike 3/8" or 1/2" and let it dry for 2 weeks.. Also, distribute your weight as much as you can over the area...
