Gonna buy a 3 gal. pico today. have questions!!!

Hi everybody Well, Ive had a 45 gal. for 8 months now, and my birthdays coming... and Im going to start me up a pico tank!

But i have questions/concerns

heater.... what are u guys using??? I saw the theo mini heater, but it says 'unplug if your room temp is 76 or above until needed agian' does that mean theres no therostat? I need a great mini heater. no unplugging required!

the hob it comes with.. is there media inside? where do i buy replacement media?

I think its going to be a sexy shrimp/zoa tank, or somthing like that. havent really decided. Ill be looking thru all the threads here to give me some ideas.
I guess the heater is my biggest concern

If you haven't done a nano/pico before, a slightly larger tank (5-10gallon) would be a better choice (I'll be starting my first nano of 10gallons next month) unless it's impractical for the location you want it in.
As for heaters, I don't know about one that small, I've heard good things about the smallest Ebo Jager heater, but even that 50watter is too much for a 3 gallon. Good luck on your first nano!

Im not to concerned about getting the tank stable and what not. I was looking at 5 gals.. looks like its easier to get a heater for it thats for sure

o man, if your going for the 5 gallon range, look at an eclipse corner 5. it is the best tank ive ever set up. stable, easy to maintain, and really good looking.

if youd like a list of the equipment id be glad to post it for you.

i'm using a 50 watt heater with built-in thermostat and it works great. i bought a second hob filter cuz the first one's flow wasn't cuttin it and it fits perfectly inside there.

it comes with media, two sponges and some carbon. to refill just rinse/buy new sponges and get a sock for the carbon and just refill it from a tub of carbon

also i've had great success with mine and the smallest tank before this was a 20 gallon. just make sure to do lots of water changes and be prepared for lot's of evap.

a 50 watt in a 3 gallon?? really.... I have trouble with my 50 watt in my 45 gallon lol

I saw the eclipse 5 gal. tanks. what equipment do u use with it?
I thought it only came with a 10 watt light though.... is that right?

I had a bow front 2.5 gal. I was running a rio200 and the smallest whisper filter, 50/50 compact light and the temp stayed around 80. It had an enclosed hood so I am sure that helped maintain the heat in. I had 1 Dusty clown w/ bulb tip anenome, 1 blue damsel, 1 jewel damsel, multiple snails and hermits, 1 tuxedo urchin, and 1 burgandy starfish. I used the little rocks that the kids wanted in the tank and I put some LR in there... Loved it.
