griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

3/4 of the ceiling in phase 1 is painted. Ran out of paint and didn’t feel like running up to the store. Mrs griss is trying to decide on a paint color for the walls. Hoping she’ll pick soon and, if so, I should be able to finish the ceiling and walls next weekend.

Once that’s done, VP flooring, baseboard and then start setting up the tank.

Thanks Dawn. I tend to move slowly as I have way too many hobbies. Besides reefing, I like fishing, boating, vegetable gardening and shooting. So, I try to balance my time between all of them. I've cut back on shooting since COVID. But, we try to take the boat out a couple times a month at minimum during the summer and fish as often as we can.

Haha, I totally understand George. I have too many hobbies as well and not all of them get equal attention.
I like flower gardening, motorcycling, disc golfing and horsemanship, along with reefing. Right now the fish and the horses are winning!

Mrs griss picked the paint color late afternoon yesterday and we got a couple gallons. Hoping to get at least 1 coat on the walls of phase 1 today. Going with Sherwin Williams Shoji White.

Last boat ride of the season this coming next weekend and then the boat will go to the shop for service/winterization. The weekend after, we’ll take it back to the marina and put it in the slip for winter.

Veggie garden is almost done producing for the year. So, in the coming weeks, progress should move much quicker.

Apparently, my peppermints have all died. So, yesterday I picked up an Aiptasia Eating Filefish. I have some fairly aggressive fish (Fiji Blue Devil & a real jerk female Clarkii Clown) so, he’s slowly acclimating into the existing tank.

I find acclimating new fish to an existing system that all the other fish have been long time inhabitants very stressful! In fact for me its about the most stressful thing about having a reef. Of course its worse if one of the existing fish is a nazi by nature!

Today’s plan was to take the boat out one last time, then drop it off at the service center to get winterized (5 years and haven’t found a mechanic willing to come onsite to do that). Rain cancelled that plan.

Did a second coat of paint on phase 1. So, phase 1 painting is complete. While painting, I noticed some significant holes/chips in the concrete floor where a previous wall was anchored in. Ran up to HD and got concrete patch and patched those. Also, picked up underlayment for the VPF.

Tomorrow AM we’re going to visit the oldest kid and her kids. Will likely get phase 1 flooring completed tomorrow.

That is never time wasted. Most of my grandkids live states away so don't get to see them much. I miss that!

We are fortunate, they’re only about 30 minutes away. We visited, grocery shopped and came home to watch football.

Ran a bunch of errands this AM so, didn’t get as much done as I was hoping. The flooring in phase 1 will be LVPF. Flooring in phase 2 will be carpet (maybe). Here’s what Mrs griss and I got done this afternoon.
